Lighting a 3" Happ trackball
« on: May 04, 2019, 12:35:14 pm »
Hi all, Long time lurker here

I am in the starting phase of building my arcade and trying to narrow down what I need to buy for controls.  I already purchased 2 ultrastiks and my buttons.  I have in my possession a 3" Happ High Ball trackball that works well but I wanting to add RGB lighting to it and my ultrastik 360 controllers.   What is the best way?

I will also be buying another trackball, which kind should I buy?

Which spinner should I get?

Thanks!

I think the U-trac http://www.ultimarc.com/trackball.html from Ultimarc is pretty much the ‘de facto’ trackball these days and I use his RGB option that you can add (not sure if you can add his RGB module to a Happ ball, but you may be able to if you have a hole in the bottom).

For spinners, I personally prefer the TurboTwist 2 https://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=268 from GroovyGameGear, but I know people like the one from Ultimarc also.

For RGB options for sticks there’s a number of solutions on the forum here. Just read through the ‘Project Announcements’ forum and you can see many different approaches for that.

 :o

Not sure how those would work??

I'm working away on a cabinet and current plans are to re-use my 3" Happs trackball. It's still working quite well, so it's hard for me to part with it. If I do change my mind, I would buy the Ultimarc trackball in a heartbeat. I'm totally sold on the aesthetics of having an undermounted trackball alone. My control panel might be the last thing that gets finalized, as I go back and forth on device choices.

I ended up using my Happ trackball and the Groovy Gamer Electric ICE RGB Trackball Lighting Upgrade Kit V2.0.

I havent tried it out yet but the pictures on the website looks awesome!

I just looked at this site - It would be pretty nice if I could use this kit to add color to my existing Happ 2 1/4" trackball unit and connect it to my Ultimate IO card.

I didn't see any documentation on it - did you get some?
