Translucent purple convex buttons?
« on: December 23, 2018, 10:30:52 pm »
Does anyone know where I could possibly find translucent purple convex buttons?  Can't be the snap in kind, I'm going through half an inch of wood.  Alternatively, could anyone recommend any translucent convex buttons that I could attach to an RGB LED with only the red and blue lines connected?  Thanks for your help.

How about these violet buttons from Paradise Arcade Shop?

Special to the SDB-201C are that it's easily ready for LED support. The small holes found on the 201C's transparent bodies can allow for small two pin LED diodes to fit inside with your own LED solution.

They're also available at Arcade World UK and Focus Attack.

The only downside is that you might need to route a pocket on the back of your 1/2" board.

Yeah, that's my biggest problem.  I had access to a router back when I made this board in 2014.  These days, not so much :(  Otherwise, those would be fantastic.

I just use spade-bits to drill a pocket for mounting short buttons like this.  Make a tiny pilot hole, use a large spade bit from the bottom and cut halfway through the wood, then use the button-sized spade bit to cut all the way through.

Unlike Sanwa and Seimisu screw-in buttons, these might work with a 1/2" (12.7mm) board.

17.2mm (body) - 12.7mm (board) = 4.5mm

Even if the un-threaded shoulder is 2 or 3mm, that leaves 1.5-2.5mm of threads.

May not be exactly perfect for what you need, but I’ve used these as the best ‘translucent’ concave buttons that are tall and with RGB: https://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=73&products_id=404.

Yeah, I have a set of those, they're exactly what I'm trying to replace.  if you check that page, they are apparently "sold out" with no estimate for them to return.  After time, the plastic of mine has warped, and the buttons have begun to stick.  No amount of WD-40 helps.  On top of that, the, the connections between the wires and the solder have broken, and they're a PitA to solder back together.  That's why I figured it would be easier to just get the color button I want and put a single white LED inside since I never change the colors.  But I wouldn't mind finding and RGB solution in the event that I can't find a solid purple button.
