Black Start Buttons - NOW IN!
« on: February 09, 2004, 11:47:58 am »
Just received the shipment of the black start buttons.  Expect me to be contacting the pre-order people shortly.

Edit: Some of you did not indicate your country of origin.  So if you're outside the US and I say that your shipping is $3.85 (standard US Prioity Mail shipping) then your shipping costs will be more.

Edit: Regarding payment.  Check, Money Order and PayPal are okay, BUT: NO PayPal accounts funded with a credit card.  I only have a personal account.  This includes if you have a 'debit' card that pulls funds from your checking account.  If it has a Visa or MasterCard logo on it, it counts as a credit card!

As an added suprise, they are all concave!  I had expected convex, as that was the fabs that were sent to me.

Hopefully that player 1 button isn't representative of the lot of them.  The guy's legs didn't come out very well.

No, that was my doing.  I doing a test to see how durable it was.  I rubbed it with my finger for a bit, tried my fingernail, and marred it with a screwdriver.  Since I doubt anyone will be taking a screwdriver to their buttons, you should be fine.

I would have taken a better picture, but I've been having problems with my camera.

Got any plans on what the procedure will be for those that didnt do the pre-order(yea, I missed it) or should I just keep my eyes open in the b/s/t forum? I'm definitely interested in a 1 & 2, but Ill keep the details till I see a general sale announced

Keep your eyes peeled.  As with any pre-order, there will be people that don't follow thru.  As I just got these today, it will be a little bit before I know who those people are.

Oh, one more thing: If you're going to send me money via PayPal, indicate WHO you are if sending from a business account.  I had someone earlier send me funds from a business account.  It didn't correspond to any of the names on the list of people I have.  Nor did they indicate what they ordered, other than 'this is for the buttons, thanks.'

This is obviously not directed at you, Brad, but a note to all.

They look great, Peale!  I also am glad they turned out to be concave, that would have been my first choice anyway.

I haven't gotten my total from you yet, but I will send you the $$ as soon as you let me know.  Thanks!

The black start buttons look great, Peale!  I replaced the white ones on my Guerrilla War cab because they were faded and the little guys were worn off.  The black ones match the cp artwork much better than the white ones ever did!  I bet there are many original cabs that would look better with black start buttons than white ones, just because of the cp artwork.  Thanks again!

Hey Peale,

Maybe i'm blind but i don't see anything in your first msg in this thread mentioning ppl who did pre-order. I'd like to get 1 of each button if i can. Let me know if you have any extra.

Oscar: They look great!  You're welcome.

egomaniacal1: was that supposed to read 'did' or 'didn't' preorder?  The way it is now it doesn't make much sense.

I'm waiting for everyone that did preorder to follow thru on their sets, then we'll work on the 'extras'

DARRYLICSHON: I may be able to do that, let me count what's remaining.

There were twenty-four people who pre-ordered buttons.  I have now sent mail to all.  Of those, twelve orders have been sent, and I expect another two payments via snail mail either Monday or Tuesday.

This leaves ten pre-orders that have not contacted me.  So this is what I'm going to do: If all pre-orders have not been claimed by February 29th (two weeks from today) then they will go out on a first come, first serve basis.

Here are a couple of pics of my black start buttons on 2 of my 3 swappable panels. Notice the CP wood has not yet been painted. And my bezel still desperately needs it's cabinet instructions. If you're curious, my construction process was basically the same as the multi-williams  CP on here, with the recessed dust cover routing, t-nuts, and all that.

But this thread is all about the buttons, so marvel at their blackness. :)

This one is my "tron" panel:

I agree, I think those buttons add a beautiful touch to the panels, especially if black is somehow part of the color scheme. I also love that you never see them on many other machines. :) In person, they're slick. I really dig 'em.

Peale, thanks for doing all the legwork and making this happen. Someone's gonna see this and start mass producing them. Definitely one of the freshest new add ons, trivial being start buttons or not, that I've seen since I've been on here.

Mine showed up today, and I have no words for how awesome they are!  They should stay limited edition so that only an elite few of us have them :)  Whoever didn't follow up on the pre-order is really missing out, no question, and if you end up having leftovers, let me know I might just pick up another set just to have them around.

If I gave Mamey's for effort, you'd be top winner!!!

Cheers Peale, made my day.

Yeah, yeah...now how about a picture of the buttons on one of those awful cabinets of yours?

(ps - for anyone that doesn't know, I give Zakk crap about his cabinets in an effort to make me feel better about not having a workshop to build my own.  Therefore, any cabinet that Zakk works on automatically sucks, no matter how hard it rocks.)

I keep getting people asking me to be placed on my 'list' of extra buttons.

There is no list.  If I did it would be very, very long.

When it comes time for the 'extras' I will let everyone know when and how they will be sold.

I have to agree. Go with e-bay. For what you had to go through to get them, you sold them to us for a VERY good price. And if you didn't pre-order them, you didn't pre-order them. I missed out on the red fully insulated quick disconnects by about 5 days. It sucks, but sometimes you miss the boat. And if you want them, go to ebay and bid on them.

Peale deserves to make a few extra bucks for all the work, communication, hounding phone calls, etc. to do this. And if he HAD a few extra bucks that he hadn't counted on making off of them, it'd certainly make it easier for him to come up with the rest to get MORE. (If he wants to) Or just keep it, go to Marguerita night and blow the whole stack on cheap tequila, chips and salsa, and cab rides home for everyone. *grin*

I also agree with whoever said to keep them limited edition. It makes them special. Like coming across a brand new, unused NOS Tron stick in a box. *please god, let that be next... please god, let that be next...*

Now the people who don't have them officially hate me. Sincerely, I'm not trying to be mean. I just think it sucks that people who DID pre-order are leaving him hanging when he had to pay up front to make them. I think, after that, he should take what's left and sell them to the highest bidder. They're worth it and so is the effort.

Some of them are going to be eBay'd.  Some are not.  Limited amounts of each.  I just gotta get my camera fixed so I can take some pictures.

While I'm at it...who wants a trackball?  See my .sig for details.

Yeah, yeah...now how about a picture of the buttons on one of those awful cabinets of yours?

Sorry dude, these will have to wait till I get a chance to do a new cabinet up for myself.  Next project, turns out, is going to be a cocktail cab.  Can't get 4 players around a cocktail cab too easy!  (hmm... then again) ;)

I just checked your site.  While I'm disappointed that you're not doing a conversion of either the SI or the other cab (which name escapes me @ the mo) a scratch built cab will be cool, esp a cocktail.

Okay Peale, I went out and got a new cab project for myself (thanks to my bud edgedamage!)  There's where the black buttons are gonna go.

Looks like it's going to be a sweet project!

I just picked up a cabinet, it was a Wreslefest in it's first life, and was converted into a Super High Impact.

I'm not sure how I'm going to handle the CP.  It certainly has plenty of room for four people, but I'm not sure if I'm going to do two or four player CP with this.  I'm leaning towards two, but we'll see.

Mind if I shoot some dimensions your way to help me plan my CP?  I don't have a CAD program.

no prob!  Just send me the dimensions, and the parts you plan to use...I use oscar's cad models of the parts, so they're perfectly to size.  Zelda was the first one where I had to figure out placement of a rediculous number of controls, and it worked out perf.

Yeah, I don't know if I really want a 4 player, but it IS a4 player cab, seems silly that I would convert all those 2 player cabs to 4, and convert a 4 player to 2...so.....

Looks like it's too late to order the cool black start buttons, but does anyone out there sell any kind of start buttons that aren't that standard white with the black figure?  Be nice to have something just a little bit different.
I have a bad feeling about this.

Time is running out!  For those of you who pre-ordered your buttons and have not emailed me a response, your cut-off date is the 29th of this month.  After that, you're SOL.

Do I understand correctly that in order to get 1-player and 2-player buttons the winning bidder is required to buy 3-player and 4-player buttons as well?

Also, do you only have 1 set left unclaimed, or would it be possible to purchase, say, 3 sets?

This is being auctioned as a set, yes.

Yes, there are more.  If you didn't get in on this pre-order, I'm sorry, it's too late.  I allowed a very lengthy amount of time for people to show their interest.

That being said, I will be doing another run.  BUT, it's going to be a long while down the road.

Are you ebaying the rest of the sets or is this your last set?

As I missed out on the pre-order by a few days.  And I've been emailing you from the begining to get a complete set of 4.  I was even the first person to contact you after your own Feb 29th deadline for pre-orders.  (Check this thread or your email)  Where you stated that any extra will be sold at a first come first serv basis.

"So this is what I'm going to do: If all pre-orders have not been claimed by February 29th (two weeks from today) then they will go out on a first come, first serve basis."

You can do whatever you want with the buttons.  But don't say one thing and do another... as there's alot of people interested in purchasing a set and ebaying your extras for top dollar is the opposite of what you stated as you where going to sell any extras here.

If its your last set, then go ahead and ebay it.  As there's lots of people interested in a set. And its the only way to decide who will get the last set.  But I haven't seen anything to say that this is your last set.

They look great and I hope to get a complete set, but not via ebay.

All I ask is.. Let me and the rest of us interested in a set know what your plans are for the extra sets. And how many you have left.. if any.

Thanks
-GGKoul

I hope that you didn't cave to just one person's complaints and ended the auction because of that.  I'm hoping that it's just somebody claimed their set late, but...

GGKoul -

I never said this was my last set.  In fact, just two messages up I state that very thing.

I have also said that I am not keeping a list of people who wanted a set of the 'extras.'  There will be sets, and they will going out as I see fit.

I have, for the time being, cancelled the auction.  I did say they would be going out on a first come, first serve basis.  Hey, I've been busy; I forgot.

So, let's start things off.  In order to make this fair, I'm going to defer the 'start time' of this little ditty a bit, to allow others the opportunity to 'join in.'

At 9:00am, tomorrow morning, Eastern Standard Time, there will be three (3) sets of four buttons: one, two, three and four player available.  You must email me with

LINK REMOVED, ALL BUTTONS CLAIMED

to request a set.  Want more than one set?  You have to send another email.  One set to an email.  Of course, the catch here is there are only three four player sets available.  The first three emails into my inbox (and into a special folder set up just for that occasion) will get to purchase the buttons.  Any emails coming in BEFORE 9:00AM EST will be ignored.

There will be two player sets available later this week.

I'll be interested when you do another run.  I deliberately abstained from the first pre-order because they were going to be competition-style buttons, IIRC.  Once everyone (including yourself) was pleasantly surprised by them being regular concave buttons I PM'd you, but I had a pretty hefty request (3 1-player and 3 2-player buttons, no 3 or 4-player -- rotating panels) and at that time you didn't know how many would go unclaimed.

At any rate, I just wanted to redeem myself for missing the lenthy pre-order.  It wasn't laziness, but the fact that the pre-order was for a product I wasn't interested in, and the final product turned out to be one that I was.

I hope you were able to tuck away a tidy little profit, at least enough to justify the time it took to coordinate all the ordering and package/ship buttons to people.  I look forward to the next run....I've got Nanuu graphics, so I shouldn't have any trouble making due until then.   :)

Hey Peale,

Damn I missed out on this, those buttons are cool! Did you get them made custom or are they available for order someplace and you're just coordinating a bulk order? I'd love to get a set myself... I only need P1 & P2, are the surplus going up for grabs any time soon (same e-mail thing as the P1-P4 surplus sets i assume)?
