8,840. Just to post a score... I don't get the scoring system. Seemingly randomly I get points awarded, points deducted, bullets awarded, bullets deducted. Took me a while to realize that you have to shoot the rotating flags, too.

Also, I hate this kind of shmup. I will give it a few more tries.

I'm sure you noticed, but on the left side of the screen, there will be an occasional bonus/penalty pop up.  If you shoot it, then whatever it says, is what you get.  Generally, it's not a good idea at all to be shooting over on that side, because more often than not, you will get an accidental penalty.

It is ALWAYS worth trying to shoot for extra bullets.  Bullets are the name of this game.  Shoot the ducks before they steal them, shoot the numbers moving past to get more, and be as accurate as possible.

And the flags/pipes are worth a ton in the beginning, while the screen is crowded, and they're difficult to hit.  But with each gallery item eliminated, they decrease by 10 or 20 points, so hitting them as much and as early as possible is the key.

This part this just gets me. LOL

"it runs on their Vic Dual hardware, and was the first game from them to use the General Instrument AY-3-8910 (running at 1.193181 MHz)."

I hope to find time to participate in this one.
Carnival is one of those games where the combination of simplicity and difficulty make it addictive.

Thanks for posting the link to strategywiki.  I didn't know about the consecutive pipe colors until reading that.

i think it's a really annoyingly fun game once u get into it

i managed to score just over 50,000 in the past

i think the world record holder is a guy called Fred Pastore,
there was an interview by him somewhere, he says to score 50,000+ is really good   :)

I agree!  And people look at me funny when i'm constantly whistling and humming that circus theme.  But it grows on you.

that music yes, hummed it for months after haha  ;D

a little tip, is to get good at shooting the bears, as some extra points to be picked up there

watch how this player (not me) scores points off this bear:

Had to change the CR2032 in my MAME PC again (bought a nice new battery this time instead of using whatever I had on hand).

Figured I'd play Carnival while it was on.

do you turn off power to the mame pc when you are not using it?  (eg. switch off a mame cab at the wall socket after pc has shut down)
if so, doing that makes the pc mainboard battery drain
(leaving the mains power on after the pc is shutdown ensures the mainboard battery does not need to be used)

I gave it a go last night....didn't break 15k.
I seem to do better when I just clear the board.
When I try to maximize points, the round goes on too long and then an onslaught of nothing but ducks wipes me out.

There's still time, but here are the results so far, with a few hours left.

Yamatetsu - 32,320
Nexusmtz - 27,290
acvieluf - 24,700
jasonbar - 8,740

IF this ends with me in third, I'd like to give the honor of picking the next game to nexusmtz. No need for me to choose two in a row.
