Labeled Buttons vs. Labeled Control Panel
« on: October 18, 2017, 10:47:55 pm »
Hi All,

90% done with the design of my cabinet and I'm in the process of picking out buttons.

I plan on using these for the game buttons:

I also planned on using them for the control buttons (Player1, Player2, Coin, esc, pause... etc)  and labeling the CP.

However..

I can also go with

and then add inserts

I'll be using RGB LED's so controlling the back lighting should work fine.

The short question is:  Do you like CP labels or button labels?

Curious to know what you like best.
Thanks
Bob

my 2 cents is that the labeled buttons look cooler but I have seen some nice looking cp's with labels under the buttons ;D
They treated me like an animal and that's what I became.

I think they both have a place depending on they style and look you are going for.

I have used both methods to good effect.

Thanks for the feedback - I was leaning toward the backlit buttons and it seems like there are no real drawbacks.
So once they are back in stock - a big button order is in the works.
thanks again

Hi,
I know this was posted last year, but how would you print these button labels?  Do you just print them on good quality paper with an inkjet?  Do you use the original disk as well, that the button comes with or just the printed label?  The LED is white for the buttons I want to label

Thanks John

Clear adhesive labels are better than paper labels -- better light transmission, no visible fibers.

You can inkjet print your own inserts like the ones here or here on Avery 18665 (10 pack) or Avery 8665 (25 pack) media.

If you have a laser printer, use Avery 15665.

Do you use the original disk as well, that the button comes with or just the printed label?
Attach the adhesive Avery label to the diffuser (2nd from right), then carefully trim the excess.
- I usually put the label adhesive-side up and carefully lower the assembled plunger and diffuser onto it.
- The plunger legs are a convenient handle while trimming the excess.
- Inkjet ink flakes off very easily so print extra labels for just such an emergency. [/Foghorn Leghorn]

You may want to apply a ***small*** amount of superglue to keep the diffuser from turning under the cap.

Obligatory "CSI warning":  Allow the superglue to dry and offgas completely before assembling the buttons or they might end up like this.
