The ever popular joystick suggestion thread
« on: October 03, 2017, 04:15:01 pm »
Ive used happ competion joysticks and for some reason never felt i could get good diagonals on them.. after that i tried zippyy joysticks on a budget build and loved them. Robotron was super easy to be accurate with for instance. But recently on my new build ive found that all 3 of my zippyy joys seems to have crapped out on one diagonal direction. I dunno if maybe they switched quality, or its just me but all my zippyys seem to have one direction not register awhile after use. So before i order new ones i figured id ask what the newest well regarded joys are. I dont care about click sounds, etc. Im a casual gamer who loves the hobby and generally wont care or notice small nuances some might. I just want a nice joy that would feel exceptionally well both playing a game like robotron, but as well as fighters. Im not against trying happ again if suggested. Its been years since ive used em.. so any suggestions for replacing my cab joys? Also need a good dedicated 4 way. Zippyy is good for the switchable plate but i find the 4 way to feel supppper crappy on the zippyy

For Diagonals its hard to beat Sanwa IMO.

I rather like the JLF with a octaganal gate, Really great for fighters!

Thanks, i know theres no cure all. Especially in a mame machine. But the diagonals are my only ever complaints. Even nba jam is a huge disadvantage if one diagonal doesnt hit right. Do u have a particular model or link for your suggestions?

This is what I use! Great sticks... just very very clicky.

I use JLFs, but the type with regular micro switch connection. I prefer round gates (especially for Robotron!), and stiffer springs to the standard ones. I also have some Sanwa JLW sticks, but it seems you can no longer get round/octagonal gates or stiffer springs for them. Arcadeworld is just a popular web shop for us Brits - you should be able to source Sanwa sticks somewhere closer to wherever you're from.

Sweet! If you don't like how they feel, remember that paradise arcade makes just about every part to mod for these and tailor to your preference. They are cheap enough to just get all the little gadgets and try them out.
