Cocktail Cabinet Advice
« on: August 03, 2017, 10:49:29 am »
Hi Folks,

Im thinking that my next build will be a pretty conventional cocktail cabinet. I wanted to ask if anyone has any advice about the build in terms of the control configuration, screen setup etc before I get stuck in? Off the top of my head Im thinking the two CP's should support a stick, 6 buttons plus Px and Px Coin - pretty standard right? I quite like the look of the rec room kit - but again, as Im not planning to do the woodwork myself, please suggest away if anyone can recommend good places to obtain the wooden frame.

Finally, games - does anyone have a list of games which are best suited to cocktail cabinet? To keep the costs down Im thinking of using a Pi3 for run of the mill MAME/Neogeo type stuff - nothing too fancy!

Cheers

Mark

Just don't put the controls on top of the glass.

IIRC Haruman has a cocktail build Kit on his site (https://www.harumancustoms.com/products ) and he usually can do special layouts for the CP if you ask.

I researched the hell out of cocktail cab kits.  Haruman's kit is the best deal out there.  :)

Make it vertical, make sure it generally copies the Ms. Pac-Man "Midway" style cocktail, and you only need 3 buttons, not 6.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Paig is right about the buttons, you only need 3 and maybe some admin buttons. If you want to play 6 button games build a Stand up or Bartop.

+1 on 3 buttons for cocktail. For some reason I put 5 on mine to play defender on the player one side. Now I hardly ever play that game and it irks me looking at those extra useless buttons...
