FS: .187 Female Quick Disconnects
« on: January 28, 2004, 12:56:57 pm »
Female quick disconnects, blue and red, fully insulated.  I just found a great source on these.  Finally!  Back in stock on .187" and .250" red and blue!

Bag of 100 - $6.00 shipped.

You can order them online, here:

http://www.pealefamily.net/cgi-bin/closedShop/Item.pl?action=ShowCategory&category=parts

I accept Checks, money order and PayPal.  But - no PayPal accounts that are funded with a credit card.  This includes 'debit' cards that have the Visa or MasterCard logo on them.  They still count as a credit card.  I've only got a personal account.

If you're interested, PM or email me.

Edit: had to change the URL, it was letting people into a restricted part of the site!

Ok, quick question.  You mentioned that the red and blue are each for a different type of wire.  Could you touch on what type of wire each are for and what you recommend for each?

Just a side thought. You should look into selling the wire with the connects. It would make it really convenient to order  both in one shot. :)

I'll think about the wire thing.  Problem is I'm having problems finding it in the right types in the right amount.

The difference between the two colors is wire size.  Red is for wire 18-22G, and blue is for wire 14-18G.  A lot of people use the blues for grounds, and red for data.  Some just use one color (be it red or blue)

I know this is extremely basic to some , but i a, trying to understand this lol.  Does the smaller the gage amount mean the smaller diameter of the wire?  Now, does that have anything to do with how stiff the wire is?   Also,  does it really matter much rather you use 14 or 18 gage wire for the positive leads?    I just see alot of people using different stuff, but what is "the norm"?   It doesn't seem like it would matter much as its not sending alot fo current through the wire.

Just questions i have been wondering about for a while now.

Actually, the bigger the gauge, the smaller the wire.  Not sure why that is, but it is.

Stiffness can be cause by if the wire is multistranded or solid.  Also by what kind of material the wire is made of (copper or whatever).

What's the 'norm?'  Looks like most people use 22G.  Some use 18.  Some people even use 24, and some use the stuff from CAT-5 cable.

did you have enough left of the red to fullfill the order i placed tonight?

If not , then the blue would be fine.

Here is a really dumb question, yea you know you wanted to ask it but didn't have the guts.

Regarding the ".187" in ".187 Female Disconnects,"  what exactly does that number or fraction denote?  Also what unit is that?  I was poking around at home depot looking at the female disconnects and didn't see that fraction on any of them though I saw connectors that appeared to be the ones I should use.

Thus endeth my noob question of the day.

If i'm not mistaken, the .187 (or one hundred eight seven thousandths)
is the size of the clip in width for the female connector part that fits over the male pin on the microswitch.
Lowes only carried .250 size which is a little bigger , so i was screwed on that one.  It seems that .187"  isn't a real popular size at most do it yourself shops. Must not be a common size for electricians to use or something.
Thats why i just went ahead and ordered from peale. He's cheap, gives a good quantity, and hopefully hes fast with shipping lol.

Hope this helps :)

You can get them at Radio Shack, but they don't typically sell them in large quantities. They also package them with the male connectors so you end up with a bunch of crap you don't want. And it's far more expensive.

Yea, i found that out the hard way recently. I had them in my hand and right when the guy was ringing them up, i noticed through the bag, that their were males in there.  I told the guy " WHOA. Hold up, i'm not paying 1.70 for a bag of 16 connectors and only half of them are what i want."
best place i found is PEALE here for prices. At least so far as i have found lol.

How's Fort Wayne doin'? Ever since they got rid of Aladdin at Southown Mall and Tilt at Glenbrook I hated living there.  :P Well, not really, but life wasn't as fun. Maybe it was just me but those two were kickass arcades.

Yea, your right, those WERE kick ass arcades!  I remember going to the alladins castle arcade back when southtown mall was really roaring, now the whole mall sits empty and vacant.  SAD indeed.  Glenbrook mal l had two arcades at one time. One above  and second down below by the ice rink, but even those are now gone. I imagine glenbrook wanted to much rent  and since the arcades don't seem to make as much nowadays, the had to cloesem.
About the only place left in fort wayne now to play mass arcade games is at PUTT PUTT North.  If there is anywhere else, i've never heard of it, but putt putt is still pretty cool.   Its just not a big enough place really. The town where i live, Bluffton,in there aint squat! The bowling alley used to have about 15 games and a couple pinball machines, but now even it has abandoned us arcaders, it just sucks. I walked into a really BIG arcade while traveling in michigan last summer and it housed at least 50 games in there not to mention all the stuffed animal machines and skeeballs and the like.  I was in total AWE!  The arcade was busy at the time too and man oh man, it was definatly a moving moment for me.  Can't explain it, it just felt like......well, like home lol. Might sound dumb, but its how i felt.

Sorry for the thread hijack lol.

I haven't tried the quick diso's I got from you yet on microswitch buttons or any type of joys, but I have tried them on leaf switch buttons and had to crimp every single one just so gravity wouldn't take it off.

Is there a reason why it is like this?  Will it be the same with things other than the leafies?
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

I would be interested in getting fifty red and fifty blues, as well as 2 of those 7/8 barrel locks.  Would that be alright?  What would the total cost be?  How long would it take (I think that the locks have to be ordered, right?)?

Damned if I know, it was part of the default package.

Can't take CC, can take check/MO/Non-Credit-Card PayPal.  Haven't worked that last little ditty out yet, though.

Peale sorry for my noobieness...

1)  I just bought a bunch of buttons from Happs with the cherry switches & some Super Joy's.  Will these fit those switches & Joys?

2)  I already purchased 18 gauge wire.  Will 2 18 Gauge wires fit into one of those disconnects?  I plan on daisy chaining my ground wires.

3)  Do you ship to Canada?

Thanks for your time.

Measure the terminal on the switch with a ruler.  If it's 1/4", then no.

It should if you get the blues.  Red definitely won't work, it's too small.

I do!  Email me privately and we'll talk.  Email, not PM.

Glad you're pleased!

I've only got a few more left.  I'll reorder in the future, but it looks like everyone must be stocked up, because orders have slowed to a crawl.

I'm currently OOS on the red .187 and .250 disconnects.  An order should be here within a week.  Still have .187 and .250 blue.

I *just* received a message from my supplier, the part is backordered until mid June.  I'll post here when they're back in stock.

Peale,
I'm going to be ordering 2 T-stick pluses to go along with my Happ microswitch buttons.  What size disconnect should I order?

I'm also using 22 gauge strand wire.

Thanks.

I'm not sure.  It's likely on their site, either .250" or .187" (and I sell both)

Oh, and for that gauge of wire, you need red.
