Need Some Help
« on: June 18, 2017, 02:16:36 pm »
Good day everyone, I have searched high and low for a build thread or possibly a thread on some one having done this before but i have not been able to located one. I have a chance to get a gutted Golden Tee 2005 cabinet. It is the one that has a marquee then a speaker grill with a translucent almost Mini-Marqee and then a space that held a 25" monitor. Control panel and such. I was thinking of taking the cabinet and with the Second mini-marquee replacing the translucent with a smaller second screed and running dynamic marquee, and seeing if I can get a decently priced flat panel in Portrait format to get a big playing area with dynamic bezels for the games.

Control wise track ball two 8 way sticks and six buttons per stick. I am not sure on a spinner being added or not. If anyone has tackled this before it would be great to be directed that way so I have a little bit of a road map and such. I have attempted a cabinet based on LUSID'S Plans before but that was a complete failure on my part.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Take what you learned from your first build and make sure you dont do what ever it was to make it end up a failure again.

If you failed at making a Flash Back Arcade then maybe messing with a dynamic marquee might not be the best next step.

I would get the cabinet, do a complete body check and fix if needed, from there get the monitor figured out, control panel, PC.

Once its all looking good then maybe look into the Dynamic Marquees.

Take your time

I have 2 builds with that cabinet. At least, I think it's the same cabinet. I sold one and kept one. Here are a couple pics.

My advice, keep the trackball since all the engineering is done. I did both and spent a lot more time building a new CP than just adding in a trackball.

In the Golden Tee cabinet I kept for my collection, I added 2 more speakers and used some halo rings facing inward to give it a cool glow. The cabinet itself is rock solid, but mounting a monitor is a little tricky. The solution I used involved buying an oversized piece of tinted plexi, then mounting that directly to the cabinet and then butting the monitor straight up to it.

Good luck.

1 last thing....

I toyed around with the dynamic marquee idea a bit. I think the challenge there is the opening is for a 4:3 14" monitor and finding a quality monitor that fits that space and then to try and display marquees on it, would result in some real thin marquees, that aren't that tall. Also, I was struggling with finding a good way to mount it to the plastic insert.

Not saying it's impossible, but it wasn't worth the extra work to me.
