Jukebox skin for mamewah
« on: November 12, 2003, 12:27:59 am »
I use Mamewah as a front end for my cabinet and one of my "emulators" is going to be my jukebox (using WinCab, switching over to PartyBox the second it supports arcade controls, because I always wanted an album jukebox rather than a song jukebox).
Anyhow, I need to make a "skin" for the jukebox entry in mamewah, so I'm looking for pictures of jukeboxes, vinyls, etc.. that I could paste together to make basically what amounts to a pretty picture, since there will be only one "ROM" in my jukebox "emulator".
Any good sources for pictures?
Thanks

Google images, mebee?
Can't figure out what site I found this one on, but I used it for my (admittedly less than creative) mamewah juke layout.

but it does match the others.

Thanks! I ended up doing something similar to your skin using the "starlite" jukebox posted in the "interesting jukeboxes" thread on this board.

Mine is "pink" in tones to match the jukebox picture I had. Did you try mirroring the jukebox so that it faces to the left of the picture?

I did google for art, I just never really thought about altering the colors like you did and I didn't want something too realistic with wood tones. I think I like your jukebox better than mine, so I may redo mine if I can figure out out to turn that picture pink.

I really need to learn how to use paintshop-pro or the gimp because I'm really struggling with the art for my cab (like how to sperate the startlite jukebox form its background) and I really want to spruce up my skins for mamewah.

SpamMe,

I like the MAMEwah jukebox skin you showed.  Is it possible to have it posted on this thread as a layout file for download and ready to go with MAMEwah.  I am not into creating my own skins yet, I would really like to "borrow" yours until I do.  Thanks if that is possible as I also need a skin for jukebox in MAMEwah to go with other console/MAME skins.

Here's my current attempt. You can see that my original idea was almost identical to yours, mostly a different color scheme. Mamewah puts "Open the Jukebox" in the blank space at the bottom (that's the name of the "ROM").
I'm not happy with the text but could not figure out how to do "neon" text in PaintShop Pro. I remember using the free online service (basically a web script into the Gimp) that would generate titles for your web page in a bunch of different styles. Maybe I could find it again and it may have an option to do neon...

This was my previous attempt with the "startlite" jukebox. I don't think it works in quite as well, which is why I did it over with the picture you provided:

www.cooltext.com provided the "neon" text, and then I spent 2 hours figuring out how to make the background transparent to blend it in the picture. Anyway here's what I have now. The text displayed by mamewah (not shown in the pic) uses a default font, I'd like to use "Blippo" (same as the "Jukebox" text), but I don't know of a free/open source equivalent...

I'm happy with it and will move on to my PC games mamewah skin...

papaschtroumpf,

Great work with the jukebox skin.  I realize you put alot of work into it, but I need to ask if you could make your great MAMEwah skin available for download or otherwise somewhere.  I would love to be able to use it with my current MAMEwah setup.  I do not know where to begin in making the skins, so I would greatly appreciate being able to use a copy of yours.
Thanks.

I sent you a private message.
I don't mind sharing (or I would not have shown it in the first place) but don't want to just post it somewhere.
I may keep tweaking it, even though I said I was done, it's just too much fun even though I'm fighting the tools .A friend of mine has photoshop so I may sit down with him for a few hours to get a bsic tutorial to see if I like it better than PaintShop Pro (I know PhotoShop is superior to PaintShop Pro, but will I like it better for what I do)

papaschtroumpf,

If you don't mind I could really use a copy of your skin.  I was going to try to come up with something myself but I saw this post and really liked the way yours looked.
Thanks
