2000 Golden Tee Fore! Hard Drive Replacement
« on: January 09, 2017, 11:44:50 am »
I have a split cabinet 2000 Golden Tee Fore and a few years ago the hard drive went bad.  I want to get it running again and I believe the only thing wrong is the hard drive.  I know very little about this subject and am not a computer guy.  I know from some research that it may matter whether I have a green or red board.  My board is green.

I liked playing the machine with the 5 courses I had and I'm perfectly fine getting a drive to just have the same thing back.  However, I'm also willing to "upgrade" it if possible for a reasonable price to have more courses.  My only hesitation is I don't know that with my knowledge, I can handle changing much more than changing the hard drive.

I'm looking for recommendations on my options and the best place to purchase the hard drive.

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Correct me if I am wrong but Gt Fore 2K was not a Hard drive game. IIRC that started in 2001.
Here is a 2000 board;

Are you Sure you have a 2000?  Could you post a photo of the board?

technically the build date of the original Golden Tee Fore that is displayed on startup is from the end of 2000 (September 2000) but it is generally considered to be the 2001 entry in the series, as the first numbered version was 2002 (which obviously has a build date of October 2001...)

5 courses is 2005
all u need is a copy of 2005
and a new harddrive + egale2.09 boot rom
due to the size limt on older versions of the boot rom
2.09 un-locks the limt

I'm sure I have the 2000 build of Golden Tee Fore.  The only reason I know that is by the courses.  My machine has Mystic Hills, Suerte Del Sol, Crimson Rock, Rolling Acres and Royal Bannockburn.  It is the year after Golden Tee 2K and the year before Golden Tee Classic.

Anyway, I think my board is okay, I think I just need a new hard drive.

Any recommendations on the hard drive?

Thanks Ed.  Unfortunately, I have no idea what any of that means.

Would it be possible for you to point in the direction of where I would get a "u15+epron=egale 2.09" or a "u53" or what those are?

What do you want me to list?

My U53 says E2-LEDO 2000 IT, INC

My U15 says GOLF FORE U15 V1.03 2000 IT, INC

I hopefully have attached a photo of both.  I'm hoping I looked in the right place and got the right info.

holy ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- is that old
u will need atleast u53/u15 to move foward into (2001's)
or find an old gt2000 bin and replace u15 with egale 2.09 eprom (u15 is not only the main harddrive sizer but also the main game eprom)
it is refered to as a :boot-rom:
with egale 2.09 at least u can run any size ide u wish
without it u are locked in size to less then 10gig (8)
attached is egale 2.09 bin
if u can burn a eprom and or have a friend do it for u are 1/2 way there

Lol.

Is there anywhere I can just buy u53/u15 and a hard drive?

I don't really understand most of that and have no idea how I would "burn a eprom" or what the attached "egale 2.09 bin" is.

I honestly would just like to buy whatever I need and plug it in.  If that is even possible???

Sorry in advance for being a pain.

a u are not a pian :)
if u are usa bound ? u would need fleabay because as a rule i do not ship usa unless the rules a taken in to account
ie look at my colsing msg.
that aside
up-dating to gt2005 and (not complete) would from me to u set u back about 175.00 (cdn) u pay shipping both ways
this would get u 2-x harddrives
1-x-u53 gt2005/4
1-x-egale rom
1 board heat tested and ready to go
u can then in the futher up-date to complete (27-courses verus 5)
for the up-date all u would need is u53 from 2004/5 to complete
and new s/w for the harddrive
all else is the same
of course u would ship in the gtboard u have and its harddrive
return would be a same board up-dated with 2 harddrives
but best chk fleabay if u are usa bound
hudge hint hear read it colse
do not let your green board out for exachange
i bet u have a very rare and hard to find chip on it ?

all the people recommending he just upgrade to the latest version of the game should keep in mind that Royal Bannockburn and Rolling Acres are NOT in the 'complete' version, those 2 9-hole courses are only found in the original release of the game 'Golden Tee Fore!'  They're the only 2 courses that aren't, but they do make the original release kinda special for that reason.

i think i said about that much
but without seeing a picture of the green board I could not RECMOND a swap up to complete (27 courses)
reason is tech..here it is the gen1 green board (the op's in question) has 2 exatra ic's on it
and some different code in the xlink and for the price i was offering it at along with explaining to the op never exchange that board
until they were ready to go complete..because it is a rare board..

gtfore01 is 'Golden Tee Fore!' (released in 2000)
gtfore02 is 'Golden Tee Fore 2002' (released in 2001)
gtfore03 is 'Golden Tee Fore 2003' (released in 2002)
gtfore04 is 'Golden Tee Fore 2004' (released in 2003)
gtfore05 is 'Golden Tee Fore 2005' (released in 2004)
gtfore06 is 'Golden Tee Fore Complete' (released in 2005)

it's like the Fifa games etc. where the date on the title screen is the year AFTER release.

Honestly, I don't really care about what year I put in it.  I don't know a lot about the different years.

Dumb question though, if you have the hard drive for the year I need and that I had before why would my "u53" possibly not work if it was the same year?

what i was getting at was not as much as the hard drive but the size limiation your u15 offers
u see it is locked to about 8-10 gig
u 15 up graded to egale 2.09 fixs that limiation
to allow you to use any size hard drive u wish..
so there is your most expense in such terms (without -re-inventing-the -wheel)
this would allow u to buy a 80gig hard drive lets say and load 2001 to it (which will work) without any other changes
or u could pre-buy a loaded drive with 2001 and swap u15 out..and carry on
to up-grade u need to swap out u15 and u53 and in some cases u61
where u61 is a smf chip and very very hard to get..plus unless u have good de-solder-resolder skills it is not recomened
so what i am saying is the cheapest way is to up-grade u15 and basicly carry on

So if I'm following you correctly, its sounds like I need a "u15" and a loaded drive with 2001 and I will be good to go.

Can I purchase those two items from you?

Is anyone able to help me get my gtfore2004 working.  I can boot past the main hhd load screen and then it goes to the red screen stating incompatible software.  I have tried 3 different 2004 .chd versions and none work.

the chip itself on the board should have something like "G42-US-U"  (or something to that effect.) it should be in position U53? IIRC this will tell you what version the board is.

ok, G44-US-U is 2004 USA version.

i'm not 100% on the logistics, but I am in canada and we have a different security key ID so if I have an image, i don't even know if it would work. i'll look into it.
