Rains too much, but very pretty when it's sunny. Everyone has been very friendly.
Yep, that's Vancouver. The summertime is amazing; for 2 months out of the year you really get to see how beautiful Vancouver can really be. There's also a sweet spot during Spring where all the cherry blossom trees in Vancouver are at full bloom. The whole city has this pink and green look to it at that time. But yeah, it rains for most of the year.
People are genuinely friendly there. I don't know, I grew up there so I was one of the ---uvulas--- who cursed all the transplants that lives there now, driving housing prices up and forcing my friends who couldn't afford to live there anymore out to the sticks. I guess my wife was a transplant too. I curse her everyday though.
But she would say Vancouverites are friendly, but they keep you at arms length. People have a hard time making friends there.
Last time I was here was 30 years ago as a young child. Always remembered it being very modern with lots of glass and steel. I stand by that assessment.
This is why it's a popular filming location for a slew of TV and Movies.
We also nicknamed it HongKouver, not only for having a huge Chinese (Asian majority in general) population, but also the downtown core looks like Hong Kong. Lots of green glass sky-raises tightly packed into a small area of space.
Glad to hear you had a good time up there. I always recommend to my American friends that if you're going anywhere in Canada, Vancouver is the most beautiful and diverse place to visit. The food is top notch, especially Sushi -- cheap, high quality, and readily available everywhere -- and it's one of the few places where you can go to the beach and up to ski slopes on the same day.
