Has anyone had eye surgery? |

I'm still bearing the effects of my hypertension that started a couple years back apparently. I went to the retinal specialist today and he said that a ruptured and blocked blood vessel caused scarring to build up over time, eventually leading to a macular pucker. I've got to get a vitrectomy to correct it. Supposedly it shouldn't be too bad in terms of recovery, but I was wondering if anyone had gotten it done and how big a pain in the butt it is. Oh and yesterday my father in law's retinas detached and he had to have emergency surgery. So we are eye buddies now I guess.... all are appointments and follow ups, ect are the same time. My surgery could wait, so it isn't until the 26th of next month in case mom needs me. He's got to stay upright for at least a week so he has to sleep standing up. Understandably, he's extremely annoyed, but I'm just glad that the surgery went well and they could save his eyes. I try to compartmentalize stuff as much as I can and leave the serious stuff away from the forums, but man it's been a tough couple of years.... I just feel stretched thin. |

My G-ma had a retina detach, she got smacked in the eye by a bush branch when she was working in the garden. Moved a branch, it snapped her in the face... POOF! blind. They basically used a laser and spot-welded the retina back into place. She had full normal vision within a week afterwards. Modern medical tech... nuts! |

Yeah, I'm hoping he'll return to a fairly normal state. One eye is already 20/25, so no problems there. The other one is 20/100 WITH glasses, so that's the one they are worried about. Of course it's only been 24 hrs. His was just some odd thing that just happens to certain people.... they just detached on their own... no shock or anything. One of mine is perfect and the other is 20/70 with extremely slow focus adjustment and moderate distortion. It's been scaring the crap out of me and I've been on edge and then that happened. Nothing I could do, so I just trolled around the forum yesterday waiting. Tom Petty's right... the waiting is the hardest part. He's doing fine and my prognosis is good thus far, so hopefully we'll both get through it without issue. I know it's driving me nuts. I have to sit with my head tilted away from the screen to read things without getting a headache. The headache still comes eventually though. |

Losing my vision is one of my major fears. I just can't imagine losing the ability to make stuff, visually or whatever. I wish you the best of luck! |
