PI MAME performance
« on: June 03, 2016, 03:45:43 pm »
I'm wondering how well the raspberry PI performs with MAME when it comes to typical mid 90's era shmups. Really if it emulates DoDonpachi and other CAVE games of that era then that's good enough for me. I just want to be sure before I get my hopes up.

Does anybody have any first hand input?

All that article shows is that running a nearly cutting edge version of mame isn't feasible.  Older versions and several variants run just fine.

mame4all/advancemame ok but as far as I know there's only a very very old 'real' mame version that works on a pi so I guess I'm correct when I say it just can't run it. The question stated MAME so...

You could try mame2003.  If you can find a 0.78 version of the game you want you might be in luck.  Neo geo games work a treat,  loads of schmups in that collection...

Thanks. Does any one know if a newer version of MAME is being developed for the PI?
