Just need the Spectrum and the Genesis then ;)
Sure. Send them to me!

A buddy of mine a buddy of mine stationed in Japan messaged me last night and offered to send me a Japanese Super Famicom. Apparently you can find them all over the place in Japan.

No he needs more Nintendo consoles.  Sega sucks. ;)  Seriously though, a console collection without a NES is not a console collection.  All of modern gaming owes Nintendo for their success, and it was a period of time when developers were still willing to try crazy ideas in a game to see if it would be fun, so there are lots of gameplay styles on the NES that were never tried again.  It's very educational is my point.

I picked up a Genesis, two games and a gamepad for 35 bucks ON AMAZON.  They are kind of worthless compared to other consoles.  The only brand that loses it's value quicker is Sony... you can typically pick up a bare psx unit for 8 bucks, again ON AMAZON (their prices are horribly inflated).  Except for the Saturn of course, but now that the copy protection has finally been cracked I expect their value to normalize as well.

Also of note if you are trying to get them for the kids cheap is the fact that gamestop is selling old consoles again.  Again, Sony and Sega stuff is really cheap and Nintendo stuff is expensive, but still.... sometimes you are offered gift cards for various promotions and stuff so it's an easy way to get one for free.

I swapped Falcon 4.0 with my son's old PS2. So Sony is in there. Other than an old Master System which I no longer have, and a Genesis that my ex girlfriend kept when I left her for the woman who became my wife, I've never really owned any Sega stuff.

Genesis Rules, period ;)

NES was a good console, was rather fond of mine but i hated the controllers lol

The spectrum is heaped in gaming history though and deserves a place in any museum.

Maybe you should try and get a copy of ET for your collection to!
That game was legendary!!

According to eBay, it's trending at $8.94, so not a fortune.

As a kid, once I figured out how you were supposed to play it, it was actually quite enjoyable.

I can honestly say it's been a quiet arcade summer. Maybe my first arcade free summer. I built what I think is my last machine in January. I tried to come up with number of machines I've built since I started some 10 years ago and I think I came up with 25.

Doing some home automation, playing around with all the streaming tv options, but nothing has been as rewarding as arcade building. :)

Well ive just got home from the Revive retro gaming event I was going to today and had a real good time :)
Tops to anyone who was involved with it that may be on here.

Me and the Ms had loads of fun playing lots of old classics and some cool pin ball machines (I rather took a fancy to spiderman!) and looked at some nice old tech including a few systems I have never seen or heard of so that was pretty cool to.

Also some inspirational self builds which was pretty cool to see and gave me some food for thought.

But ime now rather tired and have sove severly sore fingers!!

Sprinkler system has been flaky lately, not always coming on, ect.  Head outside with my trusty $20 Weller soldering iron and after fixing 4 broken solder joints, works perfect again.

Completely emptied out my shed yesterday.  Tools, supplies, parts, etc all out on the lawn so I could start trimming down storage and figure out where all the mice live in that building.  Everything outside overnight.

So what I did I do that was so awesome?  I ended our two month drought.  Hasn't rained in weeks.  Rained last night, of course.

Fortunately not all that much because it was tools and such.  I do have a couple of buckets of what used to be rock salt type calcium chloride that are now going to be bucket sized blocks of calcium chloride.

So, after some percussive maintenance, the Megatouch 6 works.  Of course the oldest and crappiest one works.

The Touchmaster Infinity turns on the monitor and lights an LED on the motherboard.  No other signs of life.

The Megatouch Maxx has monitor glow, need to drill out the locks and see what's inside that thing....

Not sure what the hell I'm going to do with these.  How's the touchscreen game emulation scene?

We've got a forum for that.

Touchscreen monitors, off the top of my head, would be good for jukeboxes or maybe a DS/3DS emulation machine.  And video poker, if you are into that sort of thing.

Saint is actually fairly versed in that stuff if I remember correctly.  Afaik mame emulates some of the earlier versions but not the more recent ones.  Of course I've been out of the MAME game for quite some time.

Nothing decent is emulated.  Touchmaster 6000 is the latest working thing in MAME IIRC.
Last I checked (circa v.146) the megatouch stuff was old AND glitchy.  Cards were missing suites, etc.
Just enough to make in unplayable...maybe on purpose.

If any of them are XL, you can run XL Titanium off an IDE hard drive or compact flash/IDE adapter regardless of key.
You might have to increase the memory.
That gets you these games:
http://www.lotsapins.com/mega.htm

I have two with CF cards in IDE adapters.
They don't boot consistently though.  More than half the time it hangs and I have to restart the machine, so I can't unload them.   :-\
There's a thread in the touchscreen game subforum about setting up your own drive.
I've added it to the list of things I'll probably never get to.

Went to the Dollar Tree today.  Apparently this must have been "National Stuff Howie Wants Day" or something.  Extension cords, tweezer sets for soldering, fabric storage cubes.... all kinds of great stuff.

I also picked up one of those WinCleaner thumb drives hoping to hack it into something useful.  Thus far no luck, but hey.... it was a dollar.

Did the annual "I'm considering cancelling my service" dance with AT&T.  10 minutes of hold, 20 minutes of moaning, $700 saved.

Got an e-mail from my usenet provider that I needed to update my credit card.  It's been expired for 5 years.  Account still works.  Heh.

Why not go with Cricket?  Same network, same service, owned by AT&T.
I switched from AT&T a few years ago, didn't even have to unlock my phone.

The only major difference is LTE speeds are throttled at 8 Mbps which doesn't really effect anything I'd want to use my phone for.

I have noticed that while at concerts, my data connection doesn't work for ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.
Not sure if everyone on the AT&T network is experiencing the same thing, or if true AT&T customers are given preference.
Friends with Verizon didn't have any issues at all.

EDIT: Paying exactly $35/mo for unlimited talk/text and 2.5GB high speed data.  It's technically unlimited data, but you can't even stream music at the reduced speed.
I held onto AT&T forever at $83 because I was grandfathered into unlimited data, but only averaged 2GB/mo anyway.

Well, this is cable service.  I found out 2 days ago I had been qualified for a 25% discount on AT&T wireless for three years and just about ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- myself.  I've held onto a San Antonio number for years because it had a 10% drop.  :P

AT&T doesn't work at concerts, either.

I've got to think that all the gear at a show, some of which is wireless these days, combined with being in the pit of a concrete structure with a metal roof is nerfing the cell signals more than service coverage, but that's just a guess.

Nah, it's thousands of idiots all trying to use the network at the same time.

Recently, I have heard tales of providers putting up extra temporary towers near college football stadiums to handle the added load.

No.  Just the ones who feel the need to be reporting their concert experience online in real time every ten seconds.
(and causing me the annoyance of not being able to message one or two pics)

It's like the "everyone who drives slower than me is an idiot and everyone who drives faster than me is an ---uvula--- " thing.

EDIT: better pic

Interesting......  I've got to admit, I haven't been to a stadium event in years..... I think the last might have been WCW/nWo Souled Out and that was 99 or 2000 .  I noticed that when the undertaker comes out, people light up their phones instead of using their lighter like a proper fan.  I'm a dinosaur.  :(

I think the last might have been WCW/nWo Souled Out and that was 99 or 2000 .  I noticed that when the undertaker comes out, people light up their phones instead of using their lighter like a proper fan.  I'm a dinosaur.  :(

Let me bring you up to date:

(2016 - starting to see a few tablets)

I must admit, up until a year or two ago I'd try to get a 30 second clip or two.
The sound almost always overwhelms the mic in the phone, so I don't bother anymore.

...but this really belongs in the anti-chuff thread.

After I ruined a ZZ Top concert experience by filming too much of it, my wife and I have gone to a "one song" rule.  We actually do watch the old videos from time to time, and if it pisses off someone around us they can just deal with it for 5 minutes.

Besides, there's some great footage out there of various acts because someone was a jerk and recorded it.

And how else can I permanently document I paid good money to have this guy scream in my face and spit water on me....

No time for arcading cause I'm too busy trying to farm high individual value Pokemon....

It's times like these that make me question the decisions I've made in life.....
