The longer I'm in this hobby, the less I'm impressed by bling,  the more I am by utility. Bling doesn't make the games play any better.*

Hey, it works for pins.
Pins are a different animal. Also, they're supposed to look gaudy.

Personally I like a little gaudy with my BYOAC.  Plain Jane is great for dedicated cabinets---which I also love.

I have not used lighted buttons on a project yet and don't see myself doing so anytime soon for various reasons.  But I love to see the awesome projects this community comes up with using them.

This site is going to get awfully boring if people are not pushing the envelope a little here and there.  Just because I wouldn't want something in my basement doesn't mean watching the build can't be a lot of fun.

Of course. I'm not a big fan of LCD marquees either, but Blip! did it sooooooooo well, it's one of my favorite builds. For me, it's all in the execution of how that envelope is pushed.

Yeah, adding bling-bling for the sake of it is just tacky as fuuuu...  adding the bling that works with the overall design, now that's involves a bit more planning and thought into the aesthetic.

I'm not against adding that stuff, as long as it works with the theme and overall design.  Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

I love it , can't get enough of it on pins, but Regualr games I don't like it, I'm to much of a purist I guess

Meh, light them all or GTFO.  The mystery of what an arcade button does is solved by pushing that button once, just as intended.  Yes, that means you wasted your super attack, yes that means that quarter isn't going to last long, that was the plan.

Mo'light Mo'bettah!

I like them all lit, and lights around speakers, lit underneath - lights everywhere! And chrome.  ;D My latest build is definitely more flashy than my previous builds.

So yotsuya, you're saying you don't know if you like a control panel with LED lights, until you know if the led's light the appropriate button per game? So if a control panel has a 2 player street fighter layout and all LED's are lit and it's playing Street Fighter, you like it. But if the game is switched to Galaga and all the buttons stay lit, you don't like it? Weird bro...
Uh.... I'm not a fan of LED buttons regardless of how they're used, but using them makes sense to me if you're lighting them to indicate which ones are active in the current game. It has a purpose.

I used LEDs on my first two Mame cabs, but I don't ever see myself using them again. The longer I'm in this hobby, the less I'm impressed by bling,  the more I am by utility. Bling doesn't make the games play any better.*

*Note: these are just my opinions - doesn't mean they're right or wrong.  LED/bling away, folks!

Of course it's opinion - that's what makes the world go 'round. I must have misread where you were coming from with LED's. Some of the guys on the Mamey crew absolutely hated LCD's or slim cabinets. It's all good.

My favorite all time LED button that makes sense is the credit buttons, since they emulate coin doors.
