Spinner is making my head spin
« on: May 16, 2016, 09:09:02 pm »
I'm about to pull out my hair :)  Pi 3, Retropie, Ultimarc Ultimate I/O, Ultimarc Trackball, Servo sticks, and a beautiful Ultimarc spinner that is driving me crazy.  If Andy sells, I bought it :)  Pi project will eventually become full size cab someday, so I bought the good stuff.  Plan is to have a two player control panel that the kids can take to parties/friends houses.

I tried mame4all for a while before I found several posts detailing no support for spinners.  I've rebuilt and have been working with advmame.  No joy.  Trackball works great, but nothing with the spinner.  I saw Roboman's post and tried his recommended config settings with no luck.  The pie only see's one mouse even though the spinner and trackball are both connected.  using the cat command, both the trackball and spinner register on mouse 0.  Moving either causes characters to appear.

I'm stuck.  Has anyone had any luck with the a spinner?  Ideally and ultimarc one with I/O or ipac.  But I'll take any advice I can get.  Tempest just isn't the same with a joystick or trackball.

Thanks in advance.

yes.  I reprogrammed the i-Pac with a special version of firmware that Andy can provide.  This identifies the i-pac as a keyboard, and the USB spinner then springs into life in mame4all.  The only issue I have is that in Tron, both the joystick and the spinner move the players arms.  Grrr.  still working on that.  The spinner doesn't identify in the mame4all tab menu, but the defaults work for most spinner games.   Hope that helps.  I was in the same position as you.
