  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
hey guys how goes it. Im finishing up a control panel, and to finish it, i want to add a nice small hdmi face plate and one for power, where the user can plug said plugs right into the back of the machine, instead of the wires coming out of the back of the machine. I looked a few places and i really only see lightswitch sized plates with the hdmi port. I want something as small as can be, but it has to have some sort of finish plate or something to look nice. I also need the same for the pc power plug. I just want to be able to run an hdmi and power cord from inside the CP, into the back of the faceplates inside the CP, and then just have the ports on the outside. Clean and simple. Any suggestions? I noticed a lot of the 3 prong plug faceplates, have the raw prongs on the other side for wiring. Do they make a plate that has a male port on the outside, and inside? so i can simply run a short power plug from the motherboard to the back of the plate, then another plug runs from the outside of the plate? or perhaps suggestions for complete other ways to do it? My last pedestal i built has a hole in the back and you would pull the hdmi and power through it and plug it into a wall. I thought it would be nicer to be able to plug into the CP instead of the other way around.

as for vga to hdmi converters.... suggestions? I searched amazon and it seems MOST are hdmi to vga, and only some work both ways. But is there a particular good solution considering that the pc is being used for? also, can converting the video tax the pc at all, as im already running an old pc? or does the converter handle all the work

  • I glow in the dark.
Get a Dremel and a glue gun.  Make your own faceplates.  Why not?

VGA to HDMI or HDMI to VGA?  I picked one up from Amazon that was HDMI to VGA for $14.00 it works fine, but I wished I got the one with audio out.

If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

  • I own my own arcade machines. Word.

Lots of other solutions. Google "HDMI Jack". As for AC power. Use the 3-prong terminal. Just hack up an AC wire. This way you can control the length needed in your pedestal. Easy to do. I did the same for another purpose. Check it out here.

VGA to HDMI conversion is expensive. You're going to pay a premium if you really want to do this. Also, results vary. Better to get a VGA card that can output HDMI.
When you find great deals on Craigslist for CRT based cabs, exuberance :laugh2: can be a bad thing!

A video card somewhat out of the question. See "what would u do to beef up these pcs" thread lol. What would be expensive about it? I found anywhere from 15-30 dollar converters?
