happ track ball issue
« on: December 27, 2015, 08:01:48 pm »
finally have my trackball set up and i'm having an issue, or maybe i'm expecting too much.

when i play golden tee, if i really try to crank it, the ball spins fast, but the guy doesn't swing the club...

could this be  the rollers are stuck? or do i need to change sensitivity? I don't want to play with the settings and mess it up worse, like i did with capcom bowling(tried to set in game controls before setting up the TB correctly in mameui)

any else have this issue? its brand new so i don't think its the TB

Are you using the Happ trackball USB interface?

IIRC that interface has a problem with backspin. (interface unable to keep up with rapid transitions, moves cursor the wrong direction/shaking)

Does the trackball work normally at slower speeds?

Does it work normally in windows?

yes i am using usb, i'm not really about backspin.

but yes at slower speed it works great, but if you really try to crank it, it does nothing or when the ball starts to slow down it will do a low power swing

i can try ps2 if that is more reliable.  i have to say, these things sell for close to a hundred bucks with all the mounting and everything, if this is a known issue then why have usb at all.....

Sounds like backspin to me.

The Happ USB interface boards had such problems. I would have thought that they had worked them out by now or stopped selling them.

You can always move to a different controller interface (that's what everybody did in my time), but then you also have to replace the green Happ USB optical boards with the standard red optical boards.

I can look into the red optical board, but if I switch to ps2, would that work just as well?

Don't forget that when switching from the green to the red optics you need to swap the clk and dir on the connector.
