OP, just wanted to say thanks so much for these lists.

I needed the All Killer, No Filler games in a consolidated, single list, and I wanted it in tabular (spreadsheet/Excel/CSV format) for my project, so I wrote a script to do just that. I'm sharing it here in case anyone else finds it useful:
https://github.com/franklesniak/ROMSorter/blob/master/Create-ConsolidatedAllKillerNoFillerGameList.ps1

Please contact me on Github with any follow-ups. I am new to the forums here and unsure how often I'll be signing in.

BTW, I have other similar scripts in the above Github repository that I am working on.

Hey folks, long time no see.

Since I have nothing else to do... I'm updating my cabs for the first time in 5+ years. I haven't been here in a while either, so it was nice to see the All Killer No Filler lists. Maybe I'll do a version of these for special controls...?

Anyway, for those folks who are starting new and fresh, I've run BadMouth's original _NoFiller.txt batch file against Mame .222 and the only game files to throw errors are crimfght2.zip (replace with crimfghtu.zip) and vendetta2.zip (replace with vendetta2pw.zip or whichever version floats your boat.)

All other errors are BIOS/devices related, about 8 instances. Most have just been renamed, and can be tracked easily enough with mameinfo's NEWS.txt.  That said, if you're working with these newer versions of MAME, there's a BIOS/device subset out there that will distinctly simplify the process at a minimal 240MB space premium. Just copy that over after you've done NoFiller, and you'll be good to go, especially if you're thinking of adding any other games later in the process (no need to think about dependencies when they're all already there.)

I have the 0.222 romset and I believe it's ... merged or split? About 50ishGB. Can I use this list? I thought deleting roms created problems with other roms? I'm not really sure how it works. I'm only interested in sports, fighters, and beat 'em ups, so I'd love to use this list.

This list doesn't delete any roms. You place the .bat file(s) into your roms folder, click on it (them), the .bat file(s) create a new folder(s) in your rom folder and copy the required roms there.

When done, you can make a backup folder, move your 50 gigs of roms into it, then move or copy the roms from the all killer folders into your rom folder. Test the games, if all run correctly, you can delete the backup folder.

Awesome list, and thanks for compiling these.  I do have a question though...I'm a complete Noob and starting from scratch.  I understand these were for an older version of Mame, but figured I would download the latest version since I'm starting new.  So will this work with 0223?  I've tried to follow instructions, but the command lines say they can't find any of the files (see attachment)

Any roms which MAMEdev has changed the name of will not work, but there are probably only a few (if any) that have changed.
You should still end up with almost all the files being copied over.

Is the batch file located in the same folder as the full set of MAME roms?
(this does require that you already have a complete set of MAME roms to copy from)

It could also be that your romset is .7z files instead of .zip files.
In that case, see the related note in red at the bottom of the first post.

I created a commit and PR was accepted for nofiller tag list added to attract-mode. I created a plug-in that will copy files based on romlist or tag list. It works with windows, Mac and Linux. Will assemble a commit and PR soon for that soon.

Thanks for your work on this. It's saved me a ton of aggravation and it's crazy that five years later this continues to be an important resource people use to wrangle the chaos that is a MAME romset.

I wanted to ask how you decided which version of a game to include. Was it influenced by parents vs. clones, so that people with a merged set don't break anything? Are there artistic or gameplay differences that might make one version superior to another? Did you try to prioritize the U.S.? I ask because it seems the batch file has some U.S. versions of games but then international versions of others (ex. Japanese Double Dragon, European Dungeons and Dragons). Just curious. I'm thinking of converting my split set to unmerged and tweaking the batch file to prioritize U.S. versions, but will refrain from doing so if there were specific reasons you chose the versions you did.

Thanks again for all you've done for the community.

IIRC, I went with the parent provided it was in english.
Usually the international was and didn't include the extra "winners don't use drugs" loading screen.

In general, the gameplay in Japanese versions are considered to be more fair while US versions were tweaked to force you to insert more quarters to progress, but I prioritized language.

I don't recall why the Japanese version Double Dragon was chosen.  There might be discussion of it in the beat em up thread, or it may have just been the parent.
.....or I don't have any real reason.

Hello

I've made a too to manage romsets, and I provide pre-built lists : https://cosmo0.github.io/arcade-manager/ (it says Retropie & Recalbox but rom management work for everything)

Would you agree to let me use your lists in my app? I was planning on doing the same kind of list, but if I can use it it'll let me gain much time.

If you don't want I understand, I'll just have to list them myself  :'(

Thanks! :)

Hi, I've been using your lists for quite some time now and I can definitely say they're awesome!

I'd like to expand the AKNF project with roms that only works in other emulators than Mame. I'm starting with these lists I made based on community ratings and that it works on 4/8 way joysticks with 6 buttons + coin/start. I don't want to include gun games, racing games or other non standard control games. I don't know if these games are any good or any bad. I'd like your help to update those lists to fit in the AKNF criteria.

I've tested all those games 1 by 1 and they all work great so they could potentially be good candidates for AKNF.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

If you look at the threads for the individual lists, games from these emulators are included.  (the ones I thought worthy anyway)

Thanks for replying I just saw that. Still I think it's sad that there's not many people left on this forum to keep such a thread active. Since you made these lists there are so many improvements in emulation and the Mame set. I think it would be great to have the input of arcade connoisseur to relive those lists.

Have a great day!  :) :afro:
