Noob questions (how do I power a monitor)

Hi. I've been looking at a cabinet that the owner says works aside from the power supply. Though the cabinet is very generic (no art on it), I've identified it as a Midway cabinet from some of the labelling on the back. It uses JAMMA.

I'll get it as long as the monitor works as he says it does. I have a PC equipped with an ArcadeVGA card that I can use to test it. However, I have no idea how I should power the monitor on, any advice?

The cabinet will literally already be wired for that. There is nothing for you to do.

If it's the power supply, that can be replaced for $20. Everything will already be wired. what model of monitor is it? Are you sure it's not the isolation transformer that needs to be replaced?

The thing that trips me is the "aside from the power supply". If it's just the power supply, then most people would drop in a new power supply to get the price up. Right now, to my mind, that cab is "not working".

If you want to MAME it, then a bad PS is NoBigDeal as you don't need the power supply or the board. You do, however, want to be sure that the monitor is working. As paige points out, the monitor will be wired (it uses AC, so the power supply being dead doesn't interfere with the monitor). Unless you can establish that the monitor is working, treat it as if it is not.

Hopefully you can get some indication that it might be (e.g. that high-pitched whine, see the guns heat up, get an indication of raster on the screen).
