Noob arcade monitor win 7 issues
« on: January 03, 2016, 10:55:21 pm »
First thanks to everyone especially Calamity.
I have win7 a wg25 monitor and I have many questions.
1. I installed the new crtemu drivers and get test mode and 640 X 480.
I have a jpac and when I send the display out both outputs I get a double screen image.
This leads me to believe I am getting a 30khz image instead of 15khz ??
2. What can I post that would help troubleshoot this. I plan on using this exclusively for the cabinet.
I haven't run mame yet because i am trying to get the basics working so Should I expect to see a stable win7 interlaced image at 640 x 480?
Thanks

Calamity

You need to create the modes using VMMaker first.
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

So I think this is the process from what I've read
1. run vmmaker
I already did this and created about 27 modes.
2. Extend the desktop and plug in the monitor
This always results in garbage on the crt and a blank screen on the lcd but it still says test mode on the crt.
should I see a Windows image on the arcade monitor 640x480i? The closest I get is a split blurred image
Please advise

Run ArcadeOSD.

Use your arrow keys to move to "Attach to current monitor"

Drag the ArcadeOSD box onto your second screen. (then let go of the mouse!)

Press Enter.

Drag the Arcade OSD application back on to your primary monitor (that you can read). At this stage you should notice the name of the attached screen at the top of ArcadeOSD.

Now go ahead and pick a visible resolution for your second screen (probably 640x480@30i - 15Khz).

Unfortunately when I apply "extend desktop" my primary desktop goes blank. Although I see the test mode but nothing else. The crt is garbled. The only time I see the cry is when I mirror desktop and I see double.
Thanks

I would try and ensure that your LCD is the "primary" monitor for starters.

Once you have the display working on both screens you can switch it.

I suspect that you are:
Pushing 640x480i to the LCD (which it cant to and will show nothing) or;
Extending your desktop and loosing control of the OS because you cant seen the screen very well (because you are pushing 640x480p to the ArcadeCRT.

I would:
Boot Win7 with ONLY the LCD attached to the secondary port of the ATi card. This should give you a failsafe resolution with the secondary port being the "primary" display.
Then extend the desktop (leaving the LCD as primary)
Then run arcadeOSD and make sure you can drag it to the secondary display (turned off). Then do the select current monitor (as suggested above).

Thanks Kortina, the second port is 15 pin vga and I just cleaned out my computer "lab" and threw those cables out. So i ordered the appropriate cable and will try tomorrow. Thanks.
