Mala/Mame Configuration
« on: December 17, 2015, 07:38:20 am »
Hi Guys, first post..........
I'm building a Mame arcade cabinet for my son (and me of course).
The cabinet is going to house an 8 year old Dell Windows XP desktop which I have recently wiped and installed XP again with all drivers.
I downloaded Mame 0.164 and have spent last couple nights downloading Roms of games I want to play, quite a lot wont work on my PC, I also tried the latest version of Mame and the same. No big deal I still have plenty games I want.

Now I am trying to install/configure Mala as Frontend and having some issues.
I start it up point to the Mame.exe. it then creates the xml file is it?
I point it to the Roms location.
I have checked all the other settings.
But it doesn't seem to find my games and compile a games list, any ideas?
I read it needs a controls.ini file but struggling to find it?
Also a history.dat file?

Does anyone have a step by step guide to set it up and links to valid file locations for controls.ini etc?

Any help would be great as would like to unveil this on xmas day and make my sons day even better!!!

Thanks

Welcome aboard, Jmiller5.   ;D

The easiest way to find support files like history.dat is to check http://www.mameworld.info/. (right column, 1/2 way down the page)

Mameworld's link to controls.ini/controls.dat is broken, but it is hosted here on BYOAC.

Thanks Scott for the reply.

Any idea about the XML file as tried tonight again and it doesn't compile games/roms saying XML has to be >0.84 from Mame?

You may want to look at the thread here.

Not sure if it's exactly what you're looking for, but it looks promising.   :dunno
