I bought a nice yet older x-arcade stick off Craigslist.  No cables though.  This stick as the ps2 port and the 9 pin serial port on it.  I just want to run it as a usb controller to my computer.  Can I make a cable that will work?

Going off your post, I think you need to get the adapter from x-gaming.  I wouldn't mess with a DIY solution for a usb conversion.  If you really need to avoid that adapter or if there are truly "no wires," then get a xin-mo and wire it up as if it weren't an actual x-arcade.  The box itself and the controls are probably worth more than you paid and you might be able to get something for the x-arcade encoder after you pull it.

^this -- Xarcade sells the upgrade kit for them ( http://shop.xgaming.com/products/x-arcade-usb-adapter ) but they want $35 +/- for it so is about the same price as switching over to a xin mo encoder. Problem using a homemade cable would be the limitation of the ps2 models which only allows 6 simultaneous keys makes them really bad for 2 player fighting games (which is why no one likes the old ps2 versions and they sell them off cheap !!)

I have 2 sets of X-Arcade USB PCB and interface cables. You can have a set for the cost of shipping. Send me a PM.

I love this forum.

I say go for it!  If that doesn't work, then look at alternate options.

Well i just wanted to update.  Thanks to jeremymtc, he is sending me free of charge, the newer USB board and cables for my older X-Arcade.  I'm pretty excited to get it.  I will finally be able to play my emulators with a real controller.  And I can bring the controller over to my nerdy girlfriends house and play on her computer as well.

Playing on her "computer"...

So a little "emulate and chill"?

Got the parts from Jermey and they appear to work just fine.  Very happy.  Now I can finally play games with controls as intended until I get my cabinet built someday.

Thanks again, Jeremy!
