NFL Blitz '99 Restoration
« on: October 07, 2015, 11:37:28 pm »
Recently acquired a dedicated NFL Blitz cabinet that was upgraded to Blitz '99. I got it for a good price and it was in pretty good shape, all things considered. Nothing too drastic needed to be done. It had the usual bumps/scrapes/dings. The worst thing was the control panel. Looked like someone spilled soda all under the lexan and it had corroded security screws all over. It was also missing the "N64 Memory Card Reader" which I was kinda bummed about but it wasn't hard to locate one (Doc Mack from the Galloping Ghost Arcade hooked me up with one). The machine was intact otherwise and was fully working.

So here's a list of what all I had to do to get this thing back to near-minty shape...

-) Touched up both sides as much as they could be
-) Installed new t-molding
-) Installed new power supply
-) Installed full cap kit and new flyback for the Neotec 2515c (originally took forever for the monitor to focus up). Works perfectly now with a gorgeous picture
-) Removed, sanded, and painted all the carriage bolts
-) Filled holes/broken chunks, sanded, and painted the front coin door panel
-) Painted the coin doors
-) Painted the speaker grille
-) Acquired a card reader (original was missing) from Doc Mack from the Galloping Ghost Arcade (he had an extra and was willing to send it to me)
-) Installed 4 brand new NOS 49-way sticks (originals had DEEP gouges in the shafts from being slammed against the perimeter of the stick holes for so many years/they were all off center too)
-) Completely dismantled the control panel and cleaned up all the spilled soda that was under the lexan overlay
-) Installed new buttons and switches
-) Installed a CFC and removed the original HD
-) Sanded/painted the monitor retainer and control panel bracket that rests against it
-) Replaced all the control panel security screws
-) Cut and installed two new wooden rails for the bottom of the cabinet that were missing

I think that's it. Here are the pictures. They start with 'before,' transition to 'during,' and end with 'after.' Thanks for your interest in looking!...

Finally got the cabinet inside and added to the collection after it's full restoration. Of course, it HAD to go next the the NBA Jam...

Current collection - 28 cabs, 4 pins. (32 machines and not enough room)

Nice work man. Rep those Chiefs. Kinda have to get your wins on the game since the team can't figure it out in real life this year...

Looks great I'm new to collecting and of course i picked up both of these games also they are great with beer and friends. My NBA Jams in the Tournament Edition I just put new red T-molding on this weekend and it looks great, my next issue with the nba jams is a full cap kit and fly back as the monitor has some issues not filling the whole screen and a little dim. I haven't been able to get to my Blitz as it at my brothers house until I can finish the nba jams. What kind of paint do you use to touch up the side art, and what was your process on painting the front black. It came out great. I also have a MK3 also Midway at my house now that could use a nice restore like this.

Thanks. I used modeling paints (the kind you get from the hobby store) for the sides and I used a semi-gloss, rolled on paint for the front.

Thanks I'm going to start to sand it one down now and try to paint hopefully this weekend. I'm going to try one that just needs paint and doesn't need wood repair. I'll also be swinging by a Hobby Lobby to grab some paint. Thanks
