T-Molding Thickness

I'm planning on using 5/8" MDF and laminate (.047") on ONE side.

Is it better to use 5/8" or 3/4" t-molding.

Is 5/8" molding slightly wider than 5/8"?

Can molding, once installed, be trimmed on it's edges? I could use 3/4" and trim the overhang. (sounds risky to me).

On my upright cabinet, I used 5/8" MDF with at least .047" of paint.    The 5/8" T-molding looks great.  I'm now working on a cocktail cabinet and have slightly oversized T-molding on the control panel sides.  I have't tried trimming yet, but I don't think I could make it look good.  Maybe a router with a laminate bit?  Has anyone done this?

If you use the 5/8" T-molding, I would suggest that you paint the edges the same color as the sides before installing the T-molding.  That way, you won't be able to easily see any areas that might not be fully covered.

What's that, about 10 coats?

I couldn't figure out how to get the fininsh to look smooth.  By the time I got to the second gallon of paint, I tried a thin foam roller amd got a nice finish!
