Two probs- scrolling in some games and slowdown
« on: June 19, 2015, 08:22:57 pm »

Hi,

I've been setting up my cab which has an arcade monitor and I notice that if I use Mala (173) when I select some games the picture starts scrolling. I have fiddled with the hold a bit, but the thing is that if I don't use a front end, no games scroll. Also, on some games there is noticeable slowdown, but they run fine without Mala. Since I am using virtually the same software for my other cab which has a regular PC monitor in it, and it works perfectly, it seems to me it may have something to do with using the arcade monitor. What settings should I play around with?

The only thing I've tried so far is turing the animation off, but as you can guess that made no difference. Also set 'lo res' mode in Malas display settings. I really do want to stick with mala because 1) I like it and B) it's the easiest way to run my servosticks.

Hey Dan, still having issues with this? I remember I had this sort of problem a few years ago, and it was more of an issue with the resolution setting on the specific games that was causing problems.  I remember I had to tweak the pc resolution on windows to a very low setting, something like 640x480 or 800x600, and the games that would have the v. hold issues, I had to change their resolution settings in mame. I can't remember what I changed, but I remember I playing with the display settings in the mame ini, then perhaps later going through the problem games using the mame resolution tool.

Thanks, that sounds like it will be the answer. It is still doing it because I haven't touched it since- I haven't finished the cab yet and I get too hung up on things like this, thus delaying the build! Until I finish the cab I won't worry about it too much but when it's done I'll download that tool and try out your recommendations (",)

i had the same problem also with slow scrolling and it turned out to be the size of the snaps where in a high jpeg file, i converted them to a smaller size and went back to fast scrolling.
