Ok I couldn't resist the low price so I went ahead and bought one. The tv I'm referring to is the apex 27 inch tv at circuit city that's currently on sale for $199. The tv lacks a comb filter and stereo, but it's svid capable and has a good resolution.
First the pros:
It's cheap! Where else can you find a 27 inch svid tv for $199?
The picture quality is excellent. In the store they had it setting next to a $320 rca television and the picture quality is the same! After I got it home I hooked it up to my dvd player and found that it gave a better picture than my living room tv! It also appears that it's a toshiba clone. (Don't ask how I know.)
The cons:
It's HUGE! The thing is almost 30 inches wide due to a side speaker mount. (On a mono tv? Why in the world did they bother?) I'm having to hack up it's casing to get it to fit in my cab. The good news is the casing looks like it was designed to be hacked. there are two very heavy structurial support lines going down the case on either side. Cut at those lines and you have a 25 inch wide tv! All you have to do is remove the speakers and cut along the line.
It's HEAVY! The guy that brought it out told me it weighed about 100 lbs, and after lugging it inside I believe him. You'll definately need help installing it.
I think anyone wanting a tv for their cab should buy this one. If you can deal with the fact that it's mono sound and will probably have to be removed from it's case then this is the tv for you.
If you don't want to hack one apart, they have the exact same tv in a 24 inch variety. It's exactly 26 inches wide, perfect for a stock cab or a home built model.
Ok, I need to go back and finish modding it's case, I'll update this post once it's in my cab and hooked up.
