U360 vs Servo Stick
« on: June 22, 2015, 05:59:53 pm »
Anyone have any opinions? I like the idea of the U360 just working for everything, but the lack of physical restrictors is disappointing.

That's why the Servo Stick sounds nice. It has physical restrictors and you can set it up to automatically switch for 4 way games. Also the feel of hitting a physical button is desirable with this stick.

Any other opinions on these two?

I definitely prefer the feel of physical restriction.
What I don't care for is the square restriction in 8 way mode which all of the rotatable restrictor sticks suffer from.

Did games like MK1,2,etc and SFII have a square 8 way restrictor or was it more round?

They definitely had round movement to them here in America because they used sticks like
supers, Comps and P360s

Too bad there isn't a way to make a 4 way restrictor rotate into a round restrictor. Doesn't really make sense I guess.

I think it is and it's something I've had rattling around in my head for a while.

My plan is to have an 8-way with round moment.
And add to the shaft so there is an extra activation point at the end.
Then actually have a 2nd plate with 4 way restriction and its own seperate set of micros.
This plate would normally be hanging down low enough to not be in the way during 8 way play but then pull in for 4 way. The micros would just parallel wired to the original ones.

Or it can be done similar but with the 4 way plate in two pieces that pull in or twist in.

I'm very confident this would work well but I've got to get around to actually experimenting

The U360 has a top mount restrictor. Diamond pattern 4 way: rotate for square 8 way; pull it out for unrestricted.

It may come down to whether or not you want that clicky feedback from a micro switch based stick or more of that buttery feel you get from the u360.

Yeah but I mean a restrictor that you can automatically rotate, like the ServoStick. The convenience of it automatically switching for you in really really nice. I'm not going to open up my CP and take apart my joystick every time I decide to play a 4 way game :-(

It doesn't automatically rotate but it is on top of the panel so you just grab it and twist so it's not that hard.  The issue you would have is knowing which games needed it and the occasional having the restictor pop out of the hole.

the U360 is an awesome jack of all trades stick. If you are doing a Mame machine and want to be able to play more games better; like 49-way, analog, etc. then the U360 is great for that. Plus, with the configurable maps you potentially gain some precision that would normally come with a physical restrictor. (or maybe not depending on how you play)

If you really want a 4-way to 8-way (automatic) switchable, then the servo stick is a great option.

Kinda comes down to how what is more important to you.
