Read the news today? USB Yoke
« on: October 28, 2003, 12:47:22 am »
My jaw dropped!  USB Star Wars Yoke?

I'd like prelimary guesses on price.  If their empty 2 player box is $90 how much is a yoke going to be.

Edit:  Changed title so this wasn't so confusing.

How cool will that be ! :D As long as it faithfully mimics the original yokes. I'm cautiously excited. If it does end up being a good controller then I know what my Christmas present to myself will be. ;D "Your days are numbered Dark Side ! ::) :-X

A preview pic and more details would be nice.  Id like to know:

 - if its all plastic, or metal...?

 - what type of switches are in it?  (micro, leaf, or cheap-o gampad rubber popups : (   )

 - same return spring designs and tentions?

 - shape and mounting options?

 - handle shape?

 - pot or optical ?

 - price?

While Id love a nice yoke... I might be better off grabbing an orig off of ebay.  Im more than willing to pay the extra $ for lasting Quality and perfect feel / opertaion.   However... if this company can provide me with a bit more info asap... I might be swayed to wait it out... (as Im sure others may too)

Sounds cool, but I need info on the specs and definately need to see pictures.  I won't be excited unless its an all metal replica.

I haven't got much further with my yoke.  I do have the thumb and trigger buttons now though.  I also have all of the gears.

Here is a concern...will they offer replacement gears?  With all of the yokes I saw on ebay missing gears, it makes we wonder.

I expect it to be made of plastic and probably not "cab-friendly."

As far as a price estimate...
If its the average PC type of controller, I expect it might go for below $60.

If its a faithful replica of the Star Wars yoke that we all seem to outbid each other on,  I bet it will be closer to $100, which would be a bit steep.

I wouldn't bite unless it was the faithful, heavy metal replica. Probably not unless it came w/ a "replacement kit" full of the gears and thumb/trigger buttons along with the springs.

haha...listen to me go on.  I am definetly curious.

Ah..I was talking with hc yesterday about that someone should produce a good ready to go starwars yoke!

I really hope it will be a metal one...I think a plkastic one will never survive a few rounds of intensive starwars dogfighting!

Lets hope they are very similar to the original yokes - I'd buy one for sure.  Not many yokes on UK ebay :(

I'd be quite surprised to see them be able to make any profit on a exact replica selling at $100. $150 to $200 seems more reasonable concidering how small the market for the XY yoke really is.  One thing making exact replicas would create is a market for replacement parts, I'd imagine there are quite a few existing yokes that could use new bushings, springs, gears, ect...

In Late December GameCab will release a USB Star Wars type flight yoke

It doesn't sound like it will be an exact replica.  I personally don't care.  If it plays well and feels good, I'll take it!

after all, what'd I spend on my trackball, spinner and OptiPac? <shudders at the thought>  and for what?  Centepede and Arkanoid?

I'd pay good $$ for a good controller that I could use for Spy Hunter, Star Wars, Road Blasters etc.

just my 2p

Hope he puts up pics from the internals as well as the outsides.

Im very currious to see the center return spring methods he's using.. which is a big factor in my determination.

I hope he comes through... As like you I would be interested in this if it looks like a decent job.

Although if he can't even get pics up in time, I'm a little wary to preorder. Don't want to have another multi month delay like with ActLabs guns.

well, I've been pestering him since Saint put on the News page that he was going to do it.  I'm sure he'll have something soon.  Otherwise he'd have told me he wasn't and to go jump off a cliff and stop botherhing him.   :P

Guys,

I personally am suprised by all of the interest in the GameCab Flight Yoke and was glad that I logged on to read the messages.  Let me just say that "NO" the flight yoke is not "Vaporware" (I hate waiting for software and hardware too) and that I expect to have inital pictures released by Sunday night along with a pre-order link.  Please be advised that Sunday night is not set in stone and other factors can alter the pre-order date.  It is never my intention to sell a product that is not worth the money paid for it, and if a few more days bring to light and correct an unforseen problem then it is worth the wait.

Just hang in for a few more days.

Thanks

Charlie
The Flight Yoke Release date is September 10, 2005.
