iPac2 - Not holding in any direction on joystick
« on: June 08, 2015, 11:17:46 pm »
Hi all,

Total newbie question. I have the older iPac2 and I am testing it with Mame. When I go in any direction it seems to only press the key for a short amount of time.

An example - When I go left in a game, 1942 for instance, it goes left but only for a short distance, then stops and I need to hit left on the stick again.

Can anyone help please?

Check all your wires and make sure that everything is grounded and so on. Which MAME build are you using? Maybe you're using some weird build that's causing the problem.

If you download the older I-Pac software and install it to a different location to the one for the I-Pac 2 it has a test feature built into it.

This could be a BIOS setting.

Something like "stuck key" detection.  My friends PC had this same problem.  The iPac is basically a keyboard emulator after all.

Couple questions:

If you open note pad and hold the buttons does the single thing still happen or does it hold?

Is it for every single input?

Are the switches wired correctly, 2 or 3 prong switches?

My first guess is maybe the firmware, sticky keys, maybe the keys are setup as a shift option....

Thank you all. I think the issue is the ps/2 to USB converter I was using. I have looked around a bit more and have seen others say they are a bad idea. It is the type with the two ps/2 female connections on short cords going into a usb.

I have ordered the straight plug adaptor, will see how it goes.

It currently does the same thing in notepad. I think the converter just stops the signal after so long.
