Possible Super Res Issue On My setup
« on: April 30, 2015, 06:50:25 am »
Hey lads, having a little issue with my Win7 setup and super resolutions. I'm running GM.161 with ddraw on a 31k vertical monitor (monitor is rotated, desktop is in portrait).

When I run any game that picks 2560x480@60 I take a huge performance hit. Using Ibara (Cave) as an example the game slows down 60-70%, Shienryu dips quite badly too. If I change the resolution in mame.ini back to auto both games pick 640x480@60 and run perfectly fine (locked 100% throttled, around 180-220% unthrottled). Havn't had any issues at all with games that pick other Super Resolutions, seems to be just that specific res.

If I run everything in d3d then there's no issues at all. Would prefer to use ddraw though as using framedelay causes static tearing on my setup.

Should I just start creating specific .ini files for games that pick the 2560x480@60 to fix the issue, or have I overlooked something simple?

It's just that ddraw sucks at scaling, so it can't handle higher resolutions at all. So you really need to use a specific ini file for those games.

Future versions of GM will hopefully solve this issue by making ddraw unnecessary.
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

Thanks mate, there's not a huge amount of games picking that res in my list so it's an easy fix.
