Rotary joystick question
« on: April 13, 2015, 11:18:18 am »
Hi all,I am in the process of planning my second cabinet and given I love playing games such as time soldiers etc I was thinking on using two rotary joysticks instead,my question is how do these play when used with other games such as street fighter,r-type etc???
Or would it be best to have one as a third stick on my cp???

Unfortunately, the only answers are subjective. I have 49-way rotaries on my CP and I can play those fighting games fine. Before I decided to go 49-way, I played with just the regular rotaries and also didn't have a problem. But, you need to decide for yourself if you like it. Someone will be along shortly to tell you you can't possible play them with a rotary, but what they really mean is that the real arcade machine didn't have them so you shouldn't want to play them like that. However, this hobby is about what you want.

I started with the SuzoHapp Rotary 8-Way. Later I took some 49-ways and used the rotary potion from rotaries and "hacked" the 49-ways to make 49-way Rotaries.

I have the Happ rotary controllers installed as player 3 and 4 on my machine with Competitions installed for player 1 and 2.  I haven't tried the rotary's on SF2 but I could see them being serviceable.  If you are a purist it will feel different, they are a bit stiffer and a lot more "clicky" than my competitions are.  The half circle to fireball is still fairly smooth but you do feel that stiffness a bit.

My guess is, with a bit of time playing you will get used to it and not even notice unless you are the type that really pays attention to it.

Just my 2 cents.
