Coin Door and Mech Question
« on: March 30, 2015, 08:55:38 pm »
I am building my first arcade and am in need of a coin door. I found this one and it seems to fit everything I need (2 players, decent price) http://na.suzohapp.com/amusement_products/coin_doors/40-0055-00 . It is difficult to see what is included so my questions are:
Does this model come with 2 mech holders?
Is it ready to use in a MAME cabinet?
Will this work for 2 players on MAME?

Yes (but no actual mechs). However, buy it from somewhere else, like TwistedQuarter.com.

That's good because I'm from Canada and I was going to buy Canadian mechs anways

Are you putting your machine out in public to generate revenue? If your answer is no, then don't worry about mechs that can take Canadian quarters.  (I'm thinking its no, because you seem to be using MAME).  You can adjust standard American .25 cent mechs to take tokens and Canadian quarters.

I guess a Canadian mech is not needed, but since this particular model does not include any mechs, I might as well get the Canadian ones (they are around the same price on HAPP).

So to recap, this model comes with no mechs, has 2 slots and has 2 mech holders w/ switches?

the spec on your link states  "Fitted with 25¢ mech and 14V bulbs as standard" . So yes, it comes with Mechs.

Yes, for all of your original questions. It has mechs, yes it is ready to work in a MAME cab, (or any cab for that matter), and yes, it will work with MAME.   Hell, two paperclips connected to the wires on your encoder will work with MAME...

Yes, it does have mechs. My mistake. Buy elsewhere.

The shipping is not that bad, only ~$20.

So it comes with mechs, then what is the difference between this one and this one: http://na.suzohapp.com/amusement_products/coin_doors/40-0008-00

Why not resurrect an ailing door that's been left out in the weather and give it a new life?

This was US $12 shipped:

Some elbow grease and a coat of Maximus' favorite color....Hammered Black (US $5) and it looks new:
