Hello everyone,
I'm a long time lurker on this forum and finally got around to joining up and posting...... I've been reading some of the inspiring work by the other members.... awesome
I'm based in the UK and used to collect and trade arcade machines about 20 years ago..... back then, old video arcade machines could be picked up off operators for next to nothing.... the Megadrives and Nintendos had decimated the enthusiasm for feeding coins into arcade machines in the UK.... these days, prices are on the rise.
I've always had a soft spot for the cocktail machines and last week I picked this machine up cheap off Ebay, a Taito Space Invader cocktail in need of some TLC....
Although needing a bit of a tidy up and has a bit of screen burn, this machine is very original and un-molested, still running the original 3 layer game board. It does have an issue however, the 2a fuse keeps blowing and although the monitor powers up ok, the gameboard isn't running.
I've pulled the PSU and found a blown cap....
I've ordered some rectifiers and caps today and will rebuild this board.
I'd really like to keep the machine original if possible, it would be a shame to change it.
I do still have a box in my loft with some good tested PCB's in it that I kept for myself from years ago including Phoenix, Pacman, Scramble, Galaxians, Halleys Comet..... I could drop one of these into this table with a more modern power supply etc if I genuinely can't get the table to run the original hardware.
Hopefully fixing the PSU will get it to power up.
Cheers,
Ian
