4 Player Basic Scratch Arcade Build Complete! THANKYOU EVERYONE!

Hey guys,

My build is finished and I couldn't have done it without the comprehensive amount of guidance and advice from this site. You guys are awesome and always willing to to help. My build is very basic, not as beautiful as many I have seen on this site....but I love it none the less. One thing I wanted to point out is that the Nova Gem Coin Door buttons are amazing! The photos don't do it justice but they are really  bright.

Thanks! I've got enough 4 player games like TMNT and Simpsons to keep me busy for a while. But as far as 3 player games go...Rampage is a classic!

one question............how did you connect the tv to the pc? composite? and how does the tv turn on to the correct channel (AV) on power up? or do you just use the remote to work the tv?

thanks in advance.....I wanted to use a crt tv on mine but couldn't get it to power up on av and I didn't want to drill a hole in the bezel for the sensor to use a remote cause I felt that would take away the illusion of the arcade machine some what.

Thanks for your compliments on my build.

Believe or not I was originally going to connect the TV via Component cables through a transcoder.....but I tried a Video card with S video out before I followed through on that plan and I was extremely happy with the picture and haven't looked back since. So many people saying S video is crap blah blah but it looks great to me!

As for the TV, it turns on and off with the PC, I use a Smart Power Bar that turns everything off once it senses that the computer is off and when I turn the computer on it turns everything on including the TV again. No need to change channels or anything, the TV remembers everything. The little button between the coin doors is the PC power button.....press it and everything including the Marquee turns on and off.

The TV I am using is a Sony Wega KV-27FS120 .

The biggest issue I had with S-video is the over scan. There are some games that struggle with it more than others.

Clipping of the fighting games is a minor nuisance, but losing the map with Crazy Climber is a huge deal (if you like crazy climber). I was very happy with the quality too.

Interesting, thanks for the info. I haven't run into any noticeable overscanning issues yet with the games I have run. But good to know.

thanks for the informative reply. do you know if all crt tvs automatically remember to stay on the same channel on power up (S-Video) for eg.......or is it just some models and a matter of finding the right tv

Hi Stavros,

I'm pretty sure most Tv's will remember the input setting after turning off but where you might run into trouble is if you choose a tv that won't power up without pressing the on button after shutdown. As an example, if there is a power outage and everything turns off, you might have to access the tv to turn it back on again after the outage. With the Sony Wega I have it stays in the ON position so when power comes on it automatically turns on.

This is also important because on my Power strip everything turns on and off through my PC......when the PC turns off EVERYTHING goes off and when it goes on...EVERYTHING goes on. So if you have a TV that doesn't stay in the ON position you may have to keep turning it on everytime you shutdown.

I'm no expert in this, it's just stuff I have read through forums. It's also easy enough to test a TV out on this before you buy it. Kijiji is a great resource, I got mine TV for $25. I went to the guys house plugged it in, set it to S-Video then pulled the plug. Then I plugged it back in and it came up back on S- Video, I didn't need to press POWER it just turned on again as soon as I plugged it back in. Bango perfect TV for Arcade!

good quality build, only *minor* thing I'd change would be to put all 4 sticks on the same line to make 2 player smash TV/Total Carnage etc a little more playable. But even with the slight offset Im sure its not too hard to play smashtv.

Dont knock your cab for being "basic" lots of projects on here would have turned out better, I think, if they were more basic.

Thanks Malenko, I figured that I wouldn't need Cup Holders and a tray on my CP like I've seen around the web lol. Good point about the joysticks.

I think you covered everything. I had the exact same (or very similar) TV in my Checkered Past cab, connected via Svideo and I thought it looked great. TV came back on automatically when I flipped the switch to power up the cab and stayed on the right input.

No prob Stavros good luck! Nothing beats the scan lines to give you that arcade feel. Make sure to post the photos when you are done, I'd love to see it.
