Running 155 should I update to 156
« on: December 18, 2014, 11:32:07 pm »
I just finally got my GM set up to my liking and I am wondering if the changes made to GM 156 make a noticeable difference with my system?
I use Super Resolutions for my Betson Kortek and I understand there have been some improvements in this area. How much difference is the question. I am really happy with the picture quality overall. Except some Vector games don't display and I notice a slight ripple to the picture with some vertical games.

Overall I am super happy with it. It is a lot of work to update roms and compile GM for my AMD. Has anyone made the switch and was it worth it overall?

I've started using seriously groovymame from 156 so I still don't have much experience but what I can see form list of changes for switchres it's a little benefit. All the major changes were in switchres 0.015c. From 155 to 156 I don't see to much games added. You could look at mameinfo to list of changes but sadly 156 version didn't show up so far :/

Here's the "What's new" for vanilla 0.156.

Thanks. I know the differences to Vanilla Mame are going to be minimal to say the least. I was more looking to see if the updates specific to GM would be noticeable, specifically improvements to switches and super resolutions

What's new in SwitchRes v0.015d

- Frame_update method slighty reorganized to improve -frame_delay efficiency. Should fix previous issues with analog controls.

I don't see any significant changes in switches but You may ask Calamity. Maybe something is missing here.

Super resolutions were drastically improved in 0.015c (0.155). Using super resolutions with previous versions is totally discouraged, because there were several issues.

0.015d (0.156) only difference is the way it handles the order in which inputs are polled in frame_update. I think it is *finally* right now. This should hopefully fix problems with analog controls in previous versions (not confirmed yet). Anyway it is confirmed to improve the performance of -frame_delay: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,133194.msg1476308.html#msg1476308

Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.
