Bro Storm - The Broforce Artwork Brainstorm thread
« on: September 25, 2014, 11:46:36 am »
The player select colors in ExpendaBros are
1P Red
2P Blue
3P Orange
4P Purple

I have a picture, but its blurry.

For reference here is the Gauntlet CPO

Surely, if there is enough room for 2 buttons, they'll be room for a third.

Bro Force and Expendabros have a neat logo that I'd like to replace that demon(?) head.

So it looked something like this, but less ---smurfy--- & more complete.

For the side art, I'd consider doing something like this as a wrap around.

I'm not sure on the marquee.  Part of me thinks it would be cool to have a Bro Force Marquee and just have Expendable conversion kit style stickers to add to the marquee.

It would be modeled on to the original Gauntlet cab.

Thoughts?

It is coming along, but I decided to rethink how I was doing this.

Somewhere between more and less ---smurfy---.  I can see where I am going wrong with this.  Much of it has to do with using paint.  I think if I was going to have this printed though, I would have the colors extend past the curves and just cut off the excess.

This is where I am at now

I'd like to find some art assets maybe use the skull for the button.    The colors seem rather pedestrian at this point.  If I knew how to use something other than paint, I'd have the colors reflect of the bro at the top.

TODO:
1. Get better at layers
2. Figure out transpercy
3. Stop sucking at gimp
4. ???
5. Profit

I have no idea why the eaglefaced bro was blue.
This clearly isn't ready for play, because it only has 2 out of 3 buttons required to play. If I could find white in the paint tool, the background would have been white

I can try to whip something up for ya, if you want.

Thanks for the offer. I would enjoy input on where the 3rd button should go. Or if this button layout is even conducive to game play.  I went with it because it was on the template.  I'm encouraged that you are interested. It would be neat to see what you come up with.  I think this might be the project that helps me learn gimp and I'm in no rush.

I could add characters to this, maybe see-through smoke.. etc.  It's to scale and accounts the the top of the Gauntlet marquee that doesn't display when you see photos from the front. The final file would have the white area removed, leaving fire behind it.

That is awesome

The problem is the size.  If I recall, the translite man prints at 12*30.

Doing something this large makes using that as a medium problematic.  So, I'm trying to think of a way to make that 2 pieces.  Or, if possible, a multi layered, multi medium piece.

I'm not sure if that makes sense or sounds like jib jab, but I've tried to type this 3 times.

I took this logo and blew it up to 16 inches X 8 inches.  I kept it as clear as possible using various photoshop techniques.  Got a question, now I am assuming one can use an Ipac to play this game since it is keyboard controlled?

What about something like this?

I didn't want to upscale the logo too much: didn't want resampling to blur the pixels...

Edit: I made it a touch larger and it still looks okay:

This is nice!

You can reassign the keys to play in what ever way.  Looking closer, the different player options are keyboard 1, keyboard 2, keyboard 3, keyboard 4. Or gamepads.  On Expendabros, up to 2 keyboards.

It appears the gamepad is a global config.

Furthermore, this maybe a 4 button game.  Jump, fire, special, melee, and gesture (strike a pose?) about gesture.

If you can point me in the right direction regarding what kind of skulls you'd like, I can definitely add them to the cpo. Also of you want more buttons, let me know and I'll add them in. Unless you'd prefer I just give it a rest, of course!

Yeah, I can do that. Four buttons on a curve, right? Hopefully I can give it a crack later tonight.

Here's an unworkable version with the NeoGeo layout:

I even cheated my moving the joysticks about an inch closer to the buttons (it'll still fit a joystick...most, anyway!) which would possibly work for players 1 and 2 (blue and orange), but 3 and 4 are SOL. I can try rearranging the joy locations, but I'm not sure how awkward the results would be to actually play on. (I was thinking of moving the sticks up a bit higher than the buttons and sliding them over a bit, not stacked vertically, but headed in that general direction...) What do you think?

It's a tricky one.   A couple of thoughts.

The player angle was a little different than that though.  How much bigger would it need to be to angle the same angle that people played and the increased buttons.

Alternatively, I wonder about a diamond pattern?

Also, I played for awhile yesterday too.  It has a nice polish to it; it has been awhile since I played.  I think the skulls idea must have been more influenced by Expendabros.

Yeah, I was thinking about adjusting the player angle: what's there was a rough average of the "squiggly lines" from jakobuds' drawings, but let me move those around. And a diamond pattern could definitely be made to work. I'll provide one of each in a bit.

Yeah, it could definitely benefit from some tarting up, just trying to figure out a good placement for the controls.

And some skulls. :-)

I wish I could help you, but I don't even know WTF Bro Force is.  >:D

Well if you have steam... check it out.. It's a shooter like Metal Slug but with 8 bit graphics and pretty fun character design. Very fun to play!

Regrettably, I have not commented on the CP.

Thanks.  Bro.

:afro:

Better to drop a quick note of thanks, than to let it linger in wonder.  It really is cool.  Far better than I was coming up with.  The skulls aren't nearly as dominant in Broforce.

Does anyone have suggestions on what to fill the white void?  I'll take a look at the games webpage for some more ideas, but last I knew they were having problems.
