power through a keyboard encoder???
« on: January 24, 2004, 12:56:55 pm »
I am trying to hack a few 49way sinister joysticks..

They send 5 volts through their board... And the connections go from 0v about 4v when connect (when connected).

when checking with ohms.  It goes from connected with some resistence.. to straight thought.

Anyway, I've NEVER hooked anything to a keyboard encoder that has power through it... I'm assuming this is bad.

Anyone who hacked either a happs or a sinister to a keyboard out there?

Thanks!

<edit>
NOTE:  I'm assuming this is how the 360's are hooked in... but I've never tested one to see..

Correct assumption on the P360's.  When you just have the +5V and GND wires connected on a P360, the L/R/U/D tabs measure about +4V.  When you connect the directionals to the button inputs on an I-PAC, they still measure about +4V.   When an opto is blocked (ie, moving the joystick "up"), the UP terminal on the I-PAC goes to ground, which is what is supposed to happen.

Based on what I think you are asking, I say you are okay.  Best to confirm with Andy or Randy, though, just to be sure.

Or RonM, last I heard Lilwolf had an MK64 (or was it an MK40?)

Hard to tell, isn't it?!?     ;)

In the past couple months, I've seen a number of Keywiz's and I-PAC's come thru my shop....  You never know what someone buys or sells.....

Yes... I have a mk64... Bought it back when it was the only one that handled a 4player control panel (without swapping it around to program).

I believe they are all about the same... and I'm still a little scared to plug them in... especially since I don't have the money to replace it at the moment...
