Decasing a 2001FP
« on: July 22, 2014, 01:36:35 pm »
I need to remote-mount the power button, and the admin buttons.

I don't trust just leaving the monitor in a particular mode and hoping it STAYS in that mode forever.

Does anyone know how to decase the monitor so that I can extend the harness to the coindoor?

I'm looking at the monitor, but I don't see any screws holding it together. I'm afraid to pry the 2 halves apart in case there is something else holding it all together.

Thanks Ed. I was able to find a youtube video decasing a 17" model. Exactly the same process.

I've got it apart now, and I think I'm going to mount it without the bezel completely, and extend the button board to mount behind the coin door.

I was going to put the monitor back into the case, then mount it in the cabinet.

Now that I look at it, I think I'm going to leave it decased, and mount it in the cabinet. Its a perfectly square-cornered rectangle (not rounded corners like the plastic bezel is) and I now have a few more mounting options to get it mounted to the cabinet.

I'll post some pics soon.

I have seen people use the back plastic only to attach them too.  That way you have something you can screw into that's not risking any electronics. Clean front no bezel, rear bezel on screwed into supports to hold it up.

I'd like to see pics of the monitor, decased and mounted.  Also interested in seeing how you extended the button panel.

+1 -- I've just ordered one from ArrowDirect.com (thanks to Howard's thread on them) refurbished including tax and shipping it came to $32.61 since it was miscatergorized as a 19" but even correctly labelled ones are about $40 with their sale going ( "dealnews" code gets 50% off the already 30% discounted price right now on all monitors.)

So would be interested in seeing some pics to help decide what to do with it ! (thinking I might build a cocktail cab using it since it is an IPS monitor with good viewing angle.)

I'll post some pics ASAP.

I went to Home Depot and bout a 4ft piece of aluminum 1" angle.

Cut it in half, and used it as rails to suipport it from underneath.
