Cd100 static speaker noise when title page motor comes on
« on: May 01, 2014, 10:54:55 pm »
I just bought a used CD100-C . When CD plays and I flip back and forth though the title pages I get a static noise though the speakers. I check my grounds and they seem fine. I disconnected the CD player RCA's and its still noisy . I disconnected the mute wire from the CCC and it's still there. Noise only happens when CD plays and only when the page motor comes on. I pulled off all the connectors and reseated. Can anyone help me solve this issue?

Hello and welcome to the forum, sadly you did not leave your name.

I sound to me that the problem may well be on the title rack interface or the motor or switch on the title rack.

Yes I believe it is some sort of Tiltle motor interference. The switches that turn the pages near the service switch does the same thing. Guess this is not a common problem

i think a fix for this kind of issue was to attach a "104" (.1uf) ceramic capacitor from each of the power leads on the motor to the motor case.

double check all your plugs too...just slide them back and forth a few times to get rid of any corrosion on the pins. these jukes are pretty finicky and can do all sorts of weird stuff when they get a bad connection someplace.

you may also have some failing filter caps in the main power supply. they can let the power get pretty nasty especially when motors are involved.

failing all that, your motor brushes might be getting worn out causing excessive sparking as it turns generating the noise in the system. might need to be replaced. if the noise is not overly excessive i wouldn't worry too much about it... it's not like you have to listen to it all the time, it's just when the pages turn.  :dunno

Resolved kinda! Bought a used motor. Connected it up and no noise!
It is a different model number and when I tried to manually spin the page turning black wheel it is almost impossible.
I took the gear casing apart and it all looks ok. This replacement used motor uses  a cork screw like gear on the motor shaft .
I think that my be an issue since I took apart the one I'm replacing and it's a regular type of gear.
The motor in the replacement works fine and the motor shaft spins by hand but once I put the gears back it becomes stiff. Lots of grease so not the issue. The slot in pin in the black turning manual wheel is worn in the plastic and pin is sheared from the stress. Anyone had this issue?
I'm going to try the capacitors on my motor and see if noise goes. I would have just switched motors if it would manually spin!

the worm gear as u are refering to in the title drum is removeable
they are olny pressed on
switch the worm
if the new motor did not make the noise but the old 1 did
its a clear thought the motor is done, but now as i read u said u have broken,
>The slot in pin in the black turning manual wheel is worn in the plastic and pin is sheared from the stress. <
pin ?
your title drum need's a re-lube
and not alot of :grease:
>put . Lots of grease so not the issue<
use 3@1 oil in small amount's..they are to sound a tad grindy
the screw u talk about is an adjustment screw to set the motor so it dose not bind
which btw is what u are getting...

do u have the exact service manual for this unit ?
if not post me the #
i have all of nsm stuff

Thanks Ed. The part number of my noisy motor is 30936203
The replacement I have is 30936201 . My manual that came with the jukebox but I'm not
sure if its the original says number 30936301.
I can try and swap motors out and the worm gear. I can't seem to un tightn one of the motor screws.
Did not see an adjustment screw in the case of the binding one but I will look again.
What I ment to say is the black plastic turning know that slide onto the shaft is worn in its slot where the pin is. The pin goes though the shaft and the pin was damaged. So they had been forcefully turning the wheel for some time. I have my parts from my bad motor so I'm ok there.

I just had another look at the motor with the worm and it is not a gear but actually the shaft so I can't change it out.
Comes down too the capacitor fix or getting another motor unit.

they may have changed the motor assembly part way through production. so if you bought the jukebox from an operator, the entire page assy may have been swapped at some point causing the mismatch in part numbers you are seeing. the rowe 100a and the 100b are very similar in appearance, but often have different parts (while the main assy's are interchangeable, some of the components that make them up are different and not interchangeable.)

Alright it is working now. The replacement motor I bought now turns. Cleaned out the heavy grease and reseated it all seems ok now.
What kind of grease should I use on the gears?
