Old dull slot cutter any good?
« on: April 26, 2014, 01:20:02 pm »
I should have done this a long time ago. I didn't realize my old 3 winged slot cutter was getting so dull! So, the old slot cutter, is it a throw away or can it be sharpened?

You sure it wasn't on the spindle backwards?

Pretty sure! I've built a few dozen cabinets with it.

Router bits can be sharpened.  Alot of online woodworking places will have kits if you want to go the easy route.   :D

Pretty much this.  The only thing I would add is make sure the bit is still in good shape.  A bit that has gone bad or is chipped is a nightmare waiting to happen.  If at any point you believe the integrity of the bit has been compromised buy a new one.  It can be the difference between damage to wood or to you that lasts a lifetime.

Kit?  Take that bastard to a grinding wheel.  C'mon.
