Safely Remove And Dispose Of A Monitor
« on: February 23, 2015, 08:17:00 pm »
My monitor has substantial burn in and I'm going to replace it. Thanks to places like this forum, I have found a plethora of info regarding the topic. However, I do have a few questions on the old monitor. First, is it wise to discharge the monitor when I am going to remove the whole thing including the chassis? Second, I would like to store the old monitor for a week or two in hopes of finding someone that would would be interested in taking it off my hands. How can I safely store it and avoid getting shocked when I finally go to move it? Will I need to discharge it again before moving it another time? I heard that these monitors will rebuild a charge while sitting around, so I want to proceed with caution. Finally, if I can't find someone to take it off of my hands, how can I safely dispose of it? Our county does have an electronics recycling facility, but since it is an open frame, I want to do what I can to make sure that no one gets hurt.

1 in 10 people are killed in the discharging process.  Protect yourself.

FYI, I did end up discharging my monitor and removing it without issue. I found someone on Craig's List to take it off of my hands.
