Didn't someone modify it so you could play with just a joystick and buttons?

IIRC they did release a patch after a few days that let you reassign keys but the problem is the directionals of the joystick are for directional movement and then you also need a seperate set of directionals for aiming\ facing direction so you can shoot while moving( mouse is used for moving aiming direction with 2 mouse buttons for shooting in the direction between the character and the direction the mouse arrow is away from the character) and then 7 buttons ( Light Attack. Sniper Shot, Dodge\roll, Bomb, Use\interact, Activate Relic 1, Activate Relic 2 ) - which doesn't easily adapt from Mouse\keyboard or game pad to arcade controls and not many arcades would be set up to handle 4 players with dual joysticks and 7 buttons per player !

I played wow with a million different abilities, but I had a mouse & keyboard.

I hate games like this with controllers.
I don't even like the 6 button arcade fighters.
I top out at Neo-Geo.

My kids are 6 & 8 and can play any game with any amount of buttons but when I play with them i get confused even on games with 4 buttons. LOL!

Looks like Gauntlet is getting a free major content update soon!

After playing Helldivers on PS4, Magicka 2 and now the news of this, Arrowhead is one of my new favourite game developers.

Feel free to chime in on the forums here:  http://steamcommunity.com/app/258970/discussions/

Sounds like they are listening to what players want.  Maybe we will see the support for more simple controls for their "Brand New Game Mode"?  Perhaps a nod to the classic version of the game?

Did anyone ever get this playable with a standard arcade control panel?

I recently bought and beat Mad Max for PC using a 360 gamepad and the game uses every single input. The ones used less frequently still didn't feel natural even after 80 hours of gameplay. It actually seemed like the developers even padded out the number of unique inputs needed to match the number of the gamepad.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

It uses both the D-Pad and the analog joysticks on a gamepad.  (Doesn't work with my PS360+ encoders because of this).
