Looking for low usage 4:3 black Sony TV's
« on: February 27, 2014, 05:08:55 am »
Hi there

I'm in the UK & I'm looking specifically for low-usage 25 inch  late 4:3 black models - ideally something like a KV-25X5U or KV-25X1U.
If it's in good condition & has a really good picture & guaranteed low hours I would pay £100 for it :)

Cheers, Andy

I have a 25" 4:3 Sony Trinitron, model number is KV-25X2U from what I remember.

EDIT > model number is actually KV-X2502U

It's been in storage for about a year but was working perfectly before it was stored with a nice crisp, bright picture. I would say it has had average usage but I would accept less than you offered because of this.

I'm based in North Yorkshire, if your interested.

Thanks for that :) I'll definitely keep that in mind & get back to you at some point if I don't find any lower usage ones. I guess average use means about 10-15 years of daily 2-3 hour watching? I'm really looking for ones that have been used in spare rooms, guest houses etc. Not easy to find - they do come up (rarely) though. I thought it would be a good idea to ask on these forums as people would know how good the geometry, convergence is etc. which usually people don't have a clue about.

Anyway, thanks again - good to know & I might very well get back to you soon if that's OK :)

Yeah no probs.

It's about 20 years old, it was the main TV at my parents house for about 12 Years, then it was the spare room TV for a few years before I took it to use in an Arcade Cab. Got rid of the cab about a year ago, but kept the TV.

I use it now and again for testing.

Anyways, no rush if you do want it, it's not going anywhere.

You can replace the capacitors on the old TVs the same way you can on old arcade monitors to get the picture quality back to excellent. However some of those older big sets have a crazy amount of caps on them.

Definitely good to know for the future, but I'd much rather find a good one than go to all the hassle of replacing caps - cheers for the info anyway :)

Those late model Sony CRTs require a degree in dedication and a PhD in holy crap to get apart, get capped, and get back together.  Think paper thin ribbons, extra shielding, and lots of SMD.

You will have to eventually anyway, it is only a matter of time.

I know what you mean - but my aim is to collect 4 or 5 good quality low use CRTs which should last me a very long time  ;)
