Best video card for MKX
« on: October 07, 2015, 02:24:54 pm »
Hello All,

I'm gonna start an MKX build soon and am unsure about which video card to get for the build.

I'll have an I7, with 8gb mem.

I'm looking for something that will run it smoothly w/o all the extra bells a whistles, like SLI etc.

Any ideas?

I have a gtx 760 in my desktop with a i7 2600k and 8gb of ram. Game runs fine at 1920x1200 for me.

Are any of the settings dialed down or is everything enabled and high.

Not maxed out, but have FXAA on with anistropic filtering set to 5. Some of the bloom and stuff is set to off. I didnt really mess with any settings, just fired it up. It looks great and plays great as is.

Im kinda in the same boat ....

I built my first mk themed cab and its getting close to completion.

I want to run mkx on it as well.
I planed on using an old quad 3.2ghz ,4gb ram, gtx 650ti system in the cab but afraid it wont run mkx well.

My main computer is a quad 4.4ghz,8gb ram, gtx 770 OC ..... I know this system will run the game great but hesitant to dedicate this computer to the cab solely for the added ability to run mkx.

So thats my delima..... but for which video card.... I agree.... a 760 would work good or 770 if you can afford the difference.

Visited microcenter and was recommended these parts for the build.

AMD FX 8320 processor
ASUS m5A97 R2.0 mobo
250 GB samsung ssd
EVGA mem 1600 8gb
GTX 750 TI SC 2GB
updgraded cooler and PSU

total build right at around $600.00 was told i could run max settings with this...w/o OC

Just remember that they are there to sell you crap, not to help you.

The SSD and upgraded cooling system aren't really needed and will probably drop a couple hundred off of your cost.  (You'll have to get a standard hdd of course, but a TB usually goes for around 60 bucks if you look at deals.)

I actually went in with a $1000 system spec, if the idea was to sell me crap and make less money, then i find that very odd.  SSD was my preference faster boot times and i wont need a TB worth of space for this build, i'm looking for speed not space.  The cooling system, is just an upgraded fan for the CPU, 39.99.  The main coin went into the CPU and the video card, which he recommended the 2gb card instead of the the 4gb card and also explained the branding on most video cards where people pay more for just for the change in the way the box looks when they in fact paying more for the same card, just in a different box.

I've jumped on the SSD band wagon, installed a few recently and have been happy with the results.  Plus at 70.00 bucks its not a bad deal, im sacrificing un-needed space for wanted speed.  Also if he sold me crap, he added that if this setup did not do everything that i asked him for, to bring it all back for a full refund.  So I don't think he sold me crap, as i researched all of the parts after the fact, all had great ratings, from newegg to amazon etc....

The 750 ti is basically the 650 ti / 650 ti boost but with newer architecture.

The 650 ti vids I watched showed studdering and frame rate drops.
Im sure you will be able to run it but might get some fps drops with high settings.

I always check the video card hierarchy chart...
www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-graphics-card-review,3107-7.html

For a dedicated mkx cab I would feel better with a 660 or 760 .... if you got the 750 though let us know how it works out.... it looks like a good budget buy if it does handle the game well.

The 750ti SC (Superclocked) 1176 & 1255mhz is the model i was looking at.

Any thoughts about the 950, looks to priced the same with the rebates and a few improvements over the 750 Ti.

I wasnt aware nvidia made a 950.... its probably inline with the 650ti/750ti just again.....newer architexture/ less power consumption.

Id really try to squueze for at least the 760 or similar tiered cards. It wouldnt be fun to get everything done and find fps drops.... Ive read this game suffers with even slight fps drops causing your special moves/combos to drop.

Ive built my own computers since windows 3.1 and before the pentium even came out. On every build I went with the budget bang for the buck video cards (gt 9600, 650ti - being the last 2) I always just scraped by in terms of performance.

My last upgrade I splurged and bought an r9 290 and wow! it was a beast! You can get them cheap used on ebay - alot were old bitcoin minning cards being sold off.
Mine gave blue screen errors and being impatient I sent it back and got my gtx 770 OC .... same price as the r9 290, lost a tiny bit performance but this thing is super stable.
Huge improvement over the 650 ti  which I felt was almost unplayable with newer games.... so Id hate to see you get a similar 750ti and be disappointed.

For mkx I say save and spend that extra $50-$100 and get at least a proper card to run this game (760 at least)

these are the cards Id look at for a mkx based build...
Lower tier/cheaper towards bottom....but wouldnt get anything less than whats on this list
I didnt list the really expensive ones....tried to keep it in the sane price level

nvidia                                               radeon
GTX 590, 680, 770                         HD 6990, 7970 GHz Ed., R9 280X, 380
GTX 580, GTX 670, GTX 960           HD 5970, 7870 LE (XT), 7950, 280, 285
GTX 660 Ti, GTX 760                       HD 7870, R9 270, R9 270X, R7 370

Just my 2 cents

You should get on good with a 960 and think youll be much happier!

I made some progress with my cab.... I got the 650ti rig in it..... waiting on my controls....but plan to try mkx out on it...ill let you know how it goes but Im pretty sure Ill be swapping my 770oc rig in the cab in the near future

Loving your cab man, you did a chanceK version huh.

I'm doing a slim version mashup, chancek, ond's metroplis and the a standard mk cab.

In that link there are different versions, do you see one i should choose over the other only difference i can see is the clocking mhz.

I wouldnt worry too much about overclock vs non overclocked versions of same card. Non overclock versions can usually be overclocked to same level as the overclock version cards.
Still.... I wouldnt even worry about overclocking.... you might notice a couple fps difference.... nothing big.

Just find the best deal and read the reviews.....
Evga are great cards.... i think there qc is best out of all of them
My evga 770 oc has been rock solid.

4gb would be good for 4k resolutions or triple monitors but I dont think the 128bit bus would make use of the 4gb.

Id get the 2gb version since its going in a single monitor cab

I think you would be ok with either if you wanted the 4gb version though

Yep...just MSI version. It must be new since no reviews on it.
One would have to decide on saving a few bucks versus getting a card with good reviews.

All cards of the same series will be similar.... just vram ,cooling, clockspeeds can vary slightly. Usually no noticeable difference performance wise.
Some people like to stick with certain brands due to better quality control.
Ive had several msi cards with no issues

ok about to pull the trigger.  Anybody heard anything about PNY, read good review and it's 20bucks cheaper 189.99 with higher specs.

Going with an 154690 and the reviews all have said this is a superior gaming processor vs. AMD.

I just purchased the rig for it....total right around 760.00 with the rebates.  I did alot of research on each part so hopefully this will get me what i want plus some.

I tried to come up with the best possible mid level gaming config, w/o breaking the bank, the goal to get consistent 60 FPS gameplay.

I5 was preferred and recommended for gaming only rigs over the AMD CPUS.

PNY GTX 960 video card had great reviews highest MHZ and was cheaper than MSI and GIGABYTE.

8GB of ram was advised anything over that was wasteful.  I went with the 1866, low Timing 8-9-9-24, and low cas latency 8

Krait board has easy OC, and just enough features for what im trying to do.

Shout out to DeezDrama for all the help and guidance....

Looks like a good build, enjoy.

One thing to mention for others, i've found Microcenter tends to have the best combo deals on CPU/Motherboard's. On a build like this you could shave off $20-60 depending on how flexible you are on the motherboard.

http://www.microcenter.com/site/brands/intel-processor-bundles.aspx

The Microcenter near me also frequently has open box items that are perfectly good returns that were never used and the rebates still work so you'll get the open box discount plus any rebates. Worth checking out if you have one nearby.

Yeah the one thing about bundles, is the couple the processor with a poopy board.  I went off of 5 star reviews and read alot about the mobo's, some look good but suck ass.  I got about $30.00 in rebates coming back to me, I agree with you on the open box stuff too.  I was able to get free shipping, and i have 12 months to pay this thing off interest free, so no up front cash out of pocket.
