Thanks Calamity.
These monthly mame releases are starting to seem too frequent now.

Hi Calamity,

Thanks for this super quick release. You're awesome as always. :D

Trying to apply hi_160.diff from Google Drive to Mame 0.160 Source but getting the following error:

patch: **** malformed patch at line 472: diff -Nru src/emu/hiscore.h src/emu/hiscore.h

I noticed there was a size difference between  hi_160.diff on Google Drive and the one in KMChamp's thread and thought maybe it was incomplete. But then, at the last minute, I noticed your post that you had removed a sizeable chunk of code.

I did try patching MKChamp's version and it patched fine. Would the version of MinGW being used make a difference? I tried the latest "buildtools" from MAME site and ran the buildtools.bat first. I also tried MinGW 20121207 but both reaped the same results.

Im also getting "patch:**** malformed patch at line 1030: diff -Nru src/emu/switchres/monitor.c src/emu/switchres/monitor.c" error when applying GM diff. Both errors seem to be related to new files being created. I am running with administrative privileges.

Am I doing something wrong? :(

Download the diffs now, they should be fixed.
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt

Loving groovyume for console emulation, but I can't get clrmamepro to recognize any NES roms. what should the folder name be called for the NES roms?

Entirely not a GroovyUME question. NES is a weird one as it requires cleanly dumped ROMs - GoodNES type sets are no good.

Read about using MESS 'soft lists'. You'll need a special romset for this. NES roms will be placed in 'your_roms\nes'.

GroovyMAME v0.161 is out.

(Major changes in mainline's "makefile" system in this version, I still need to check if it builds under Linux).

Hi Calamity.

Thanks for taking care of the groovyume community with this new build. I have successfully compiled and executed the new binary under Linux. I will do some test the next days to see its behaviour.

That's great, I was afraid it didn't compile because of the new lua scripts that have replaced the makefiles.

Compilation went smoothly. I have also spotted that OpenGL libray is now linked to the binary compared to 0.160. I have to investigate what it could bring on the Linux side.

I have two identical HW cabs with only a different screen setup, one is 15KHz only, the second one is triple sync.
By testing a 3D game named "Cyber Cycles" (cybrcycc) which is a 31kHz game (640 480 60.000000 31.68) I have observed a strange behavior.

Emulation speed at 15kHz is 50% and 100% at 31kHz. The sound is distorted on both setups.

It is the first time I notice this. The emulation is not limited by the CPU, above 200% in free throttle mode. Could someone confirm this?

Good point Cools, indeed the game is standard resolution. Now I am questioning myself why I do not see the same performance. Even the stock mame shows inaccurate video emulation. Perhaps, I should not focus on this.

That's the halved refresh on interlaced modes disease spreading to the Linux side. Even through drm. May God have mercy on our souls.

I'm tempted to update my groovymame from .15x to the latest .161. Can i just swap the exe files or do i have to do a complete reinstall from scratch?

You should be able to just swap out the exe
but if you DO have any issues then just rename your mame.ini and create a new one: mame.exe -cc

GroovyMAME v0.162 is out.

As of 0.162 the MAME and MESS projects have been combined into a single emulator.

(So there's no need to release the GroovyUME binary anymore).

INFO: There is no UME or MESS target anymore. Compilation mus be done with MAME target.

Yes, ume.ini will no longer work. So either rename your existing ume.ini as mame.ini or even better create a new one (specially if you're in Windows: there are important changes in the hlsl implementation, it finally looks ok out of the box!).

Important note: xml format has changed in 0.162, so VMMaker won't find the required information if you use the new MAME binaries. The fix is simple so I'll update the app as soon as possible.

I have tested the 0.162 groovy release under Linux 64bit. As ever, it is working perfectly.

@Calamity, have you managed to fix the interlaced issue? I have tested Teken and other and they run normally with time to time speed drop due to intensive CPU usage. But I can confirm that the 50% emulation effet went away. I found this strange because the patch is tagged 15g like .161 was.

God has listened to you and has mercy on our souls? I will not complain.

Hi Doozer,

Thanks for the information. I'd appreciate if you could upload your 64-bit build somewhere so I can put it in the google site for download, as I'm out of time at the moment to make the Linux builds.

I have done nothing to fix the interlace issue, so the only thing I can think of if some change in mainline-sdl that has had this beneficial effect. Very good news after all.

Hi Calamity,

I have uploaded the build and it is available here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0Bw1goIvmpkFPT0dmNGdUQk5hWnM/view?usp=sharing

Indeed the SDL build is better and slightly faster as far as I can observe (I did not look at the code right now). I might check what has changed and see if sld inputs are handled differently.

Yes, you can use this option to limit the build to arcade only drivers.

Code: [Select]
make SUBTARGET=arcade

Interesting ....

Hi all,

Having probs building the latest GM. Using latest MC64 (V2.0.162), latest source and build tools downloaded by MC64 and GM162.diff.

Getting this every time I try to apply GM patch...

patching file src/emu/switchres/modeline.c
patch: **** malformed patch at line 677:
Finished!
0 Hours 0 Minutes and 0 Seconds Elapsed.

If I reverse patch I get...

patch: **** malformed patch at line 677:
The next patch, when reversed, would delete the file src/emu/switchres/modeline.c,
which does not exist!  Skipping patch.
Finished!
0 Hours 0 Minutes and 0 Seconds Elapsed.

Source folder is not read only and running MC64 as admin. It doesn't seem to be able to create the file & folder. Anyone got any info please?

Try this one.

(I'm having a hell of a time with the patch/diff utilities from the new build tools. They seem to be hardwired for unix-style line endings, which makes them hardly usable under Windows. I'm aware of the --binary option, but it seems to introduce its own issues).

Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

Well it's applied with no errors with the new diff. I'll build it later today and let you know. Thanks for all your hard work man!

Just one slightly related question though... Why is there such as difference in file size between the hiscore.diffs from this forum and the GM-hiscore.diffs that you release?

(I modified the patch to be OS-independent. This way the osd part of the patch is not required. The osd part was a pain to mantain).
