Real Arcade stick from Pelican Accessories--Anyone use it yet?
« on: November 23, 2003, 08:40:51 am »
Has anyone had any experience with the Real Arcade stick from Pelican ($49.99 at Gamestop).  With a wood finish, it looks like a real solid stick and cheaper than the X-arcade.  I would like to use it with MAME using a PS2 to USB adapter which has worked well for all my other PS2 joysticks.  Anyone use it like this?  Does it work well?  Is it worth the money?
Thanks.

I am about to pick one up. They sell the "Ultimate" model that has interfaces for PS2, GC, and XBOX in one and only costs $10 more. I messed around with it at the store several times and i liked it a lot.
The buttons are a little stiffer than I like compared to my Happs/Cherry combos, but  for the price and production quality, I like it a lot! My local gamestop has one that has been handled a bit roughly and looks like it was slobbered on. That is their only one in stock and I am not willing to buy that one. So I will either mail-order one from them or wait until some sap buys that one and they replace the stock.

I'm at home from college right now and since I bought it here at home, I've had to try using it on my brothers equipment.  He has a Radioshack PSX-USB converter (Cat no:26-304) and it doesnt even recognize the controller being plugged in. (It DOES recognize regular pads, just to be clear) My concern is that I've purchased Radioshack converters in the past and I've had issues with dance pads, so I have little trust of radioshack on this matter.  I have an EMS USB2 PS converter at my dorm and I'm wondering whether it'll work, or if I should return it while I'm still home.  It would save me UPS shipping costs.  SO if anyone could come with some sort of solution, that would be great!  I'm dyin here because I really just want to use it in MAME :( !

Any suggested proven working converters, or any other help is gratefully welcome.

Thanks!

Its not the converter most 3rd party controllers aren't made completly within the requierments of a console.

Ive had dozens of adapters and some controllers just dont work with adapters like ps1 controlers with no dual shock dont work with xbox

I also have purchased ps1 controllers from walmart for 5 bucks that dont work with any adapters

your just gonna have to suck it up and buy an interface or hack your own

I wouldn't doubt the folks at shoryuken claim that stick is garbage because of poor timing on some console

Here is the link to the Universal Real Arcade stick on Gamestop.com.

http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=801759.

It is listed at $59, but I found it in the store on sale for $39.
