M.A.M.E.-ing a SEGA Hang-on cabinet to play Motocycle- and Jet Ski-games

Guys, I have a very attractive offer for a SEGA Hang-On (first gen) sitdown-cabinet

looks like that:

http://www.eldoradogames.com/Graphics/Arcades/ho_r.jpg

For my understanding it got 3 pot-controls:

Steering
Breaking
Acceleration

How would I hack the controls for the use with PC-emulators?

Beside that, is there a chance to get reproduction artwork for that cabient and-
please state any Coin-Op game you remember I could play with handlebars....

So far I have

SEGA A.B-Cop
SEGA Hang-On
SEGA Super Hang-On
Cyber Cycles
SEGA Wave Runner
Riding Hero
Racing Hero
GP Rider
Cool Riders
ManxTT Super Bike
Power Drift
Harley Davidson
Super Bike II (is there a Super Bike I too?)
Dead Heat Riders
Soul of Racer?

And the last question....seems like Super Hang On got something like a force feedback in form of vibra-motor. Does the first Hang-On have it too and is there any chance to activate it in the emulated version?

baritonomarchetto:
You can easily hack a joypad and replace the potentiometers on the cabinet. Google is your friend.

Remember: keep the machine as original as possible so in the future you will be able to convert back the machine to the factory setup  ;)

Not sure if the Hang on sitdown version has a vibrator motor (you can check the manual of the cab), but i have seen it deactivated all the times in SHO because the effect becames annoying after a while and stresses the control panel components (at least in the upright version)

Like you're other post, quite a few of the games you mentioned aren't playable in any emulator.
You really need to install all the emulators and play the games to see how well they work before deciding if it's worth it.

Not sure whether it had a vibration motor.  I'm sure you could add one, but I don't know if the output is hooked up in MAME.
If it is hooked up, it is possible to activate it using MAMEHooker.  I haven't delved into it yet, but I believe it makes a sound if it senses an output when you run the game.  Download it and follow the instructions.

Controls could interface via a hacked gamepad, Apac, or U-HID.
The U-HID can also be used for outputs.  It should work, but I'm not sure if it's been tested with MAMEHooker.

Would the U-Hid work with the original pots or....?

I have bought a Microsoft Sidewinder game-pad for such a job. But from what I know it only got 2 pots while I expect the Hang-On to have three.

Of course I let the Cab totally original. The PCB will stay inside as well as the wiring harness.

My plan is to have a totally stock looking and playing Hang-On, just with the option of other Cycle Games as there are plenty of.

yeah, U-HID will work with the original pots.
IIRC Hang-On had the brake and throttle wired together as one axis, so that might need to be undone to separate them.
Sega Model 2 emulator (ManxTT, MotorRaid) requires throttle and brake to be separate.
