Hosed on eBay
« on: November 25, 2003, 02:41:15 pm »
I won a Robotron wire harness on eBay the 14th of November. I promptly PayPal'ed the guy $58. Today is the 25th. I have not received an email from the seller or the harness. I have sent him four emails. Two from my work account, one from home and one using eBay's "Ask Seller a question".

I haven't left neg feedback yet.... still hoping for the harness.

Any opinions?

Even though I'm like you and pay immediately, you do have to give the seller some time, ebay recommends 3 weeks, which in my opinion is way too long.

Try this link to get the info they used when they registered on eBay: http://cgi3.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?UserInformationRequest#ContactInfo

Use this form to request another user's contact information. To better protect the privacy of eBay users, you can only request contact information for eBay users who are involved in your current or recent transactions.* Examples are:

Thank you for all of the info. I did indeed request the seller info. Thats how I found his location. I called the number listed and got an answering machine.

He hasnt any auctions pending now. I keep checking every day. After the three weeks eBay suggests, I will post his info here.

...I called the number listed and got an answering machine...

Keep calling every day.
Look up his address & mail him a couple of letters/post cards.

He can say he didn't get your emails, but phone records don't lie...
I'm not a freak!...
Oh wait...
Yes I am...

subscribe him to Mary Kay cosmetics--better than a brick through his front window anyday.  If that fails--contact the jehovah's witness or church of scientology and ask to be put on their frequent mailing lists  ;D  You'll never see your money again but he won't be able to answer his front door anymore either ;)

I had some guy call me a ---tallywhacker--- after I won an auction--I often wonder how his e-diets subscription is coming...

For $58 I doubt if he was scamming you. Have you contacted paypal yet to see what their requirements are for stopping payment.

Didnt think it was a scam. I think the seller has just given up!

His eBay record is almost perfect. Others have been very happy with his auctions.

Who knows.

Just a bit peeved, thats it really. I seem to be a magnet for sour deals on eBay! The last time I was stung was for $300.

I've had a couple of ebay deals that took forever to complete. One of them was much like yours, the seller wouldn't respond, ect. I won the item for so little that I pretty much wrote it off, then two months later it finally showed up.

He might not be answering because he's not home until after Thanksgiving. :-\  Not that's good practice to have an auction end when you won't be home, but something buyers should be aware of at this time of year.

Anyway, 11 days isn't all that long of a time, IMO.  (Unless he promised and changed for next day air shipping.)  The auction even ended on a Friday, so you can usually forget Sat & Sun as shipping days; you basically have given him just 9 days (Mon to Tues) so far.  If you don't get it or an answer by next Mon night, then you can start worrying.

(That's one of the "costs" of an auction ending on Friday, vs Monday or Tuesday. :-\ )

BTW, he really should have answered your emails.  But depending on the subject line and or message content, it could have been autofiltered or ignored, or lost in the middle of a lot of spam, or the cat ate his email. ;)  That's one of the "costs" you pay by buying through ebay instead of a reputable retail store.  :-\ [shrug]
